kobieholly
Hi, So today i took my two dogs down to the local oval/footy field to have a game of fetch and a run around. After about 5-10 mins of throwing the ball i notice my GSD wasn't very keen to play anymore and infact had stopped running. This is very unlike her, she normally has a drive for any type of throwing object. Anyway while i rounded up my baby back into the parm and had put both dogs back on lead, i started walking home, thinking that they had had enough and were tired. On our walk home my OH noticed our GSD was dragging both of her back legs and causing her nails to drag on the road and make a srcapping noise. We stopped and had a feel around but couldn't find any sore spots. Anyway we have been home a few hours and she is laying out the back, seems to be quite comfortable. So my question is.....Is it bad for their legs to play fetch??? My OH says we shouldn't play it, but i don't normally play in our yard as there are too many things to run/jump over, hence why we went down to the oval. Both of the dogs just love playing... It appears that she is okay, I'll keep a close eye on her though. Anyone had a bad experience while playing fetch with there dog?

persephone
noticed our GSD was dragging both of her back legs and causing her nails to drag on the road and make a srcapping noise. This is not good - total rest today... and any sign of stiffness or being uncomfortable- take her to the vet. She may have put her back out, or something.... kobieholly
Thanks for your replys.... When we got back i made her comfy on her bed (hoping she would stay there). I checked on her awile ago and both of the dogs were playing tug-of-war with a rope toy. She isnt limping anymore, but will still keep an eye out and maybe a vet visit if its still sore tomorrow.. Tiggy
Fingers crossed she hasn't done a crutiate ligament. Sophie is banned from fetch due to a crutiate ligament injury. I think more and more people are having to stop playing fetch with their dogs due to injury or the risk of injury.
Scales of Justice
She might have the spinal problem - DM - a symptom of which is dragging the hind toes. If it was a cruciate problem she would probably be lame on one leg (not drag both). If you have any further problems I would definitely get a vet's advice.
