Toilet Training

Our puppy tends to go to the toilet on the back verandah. Its very wide and tiled and he is just doing it everywhere. There are 4 steps, quite big that he has to go down to the yard. I am not sure if this is what is stopping him, or if its just puppy...when you gotta go you gotta go

If I catch him I of quickly take him to the grass.

Any ideas on how to get him to go on the grass, instead of the verandah? Do you think that he will improve and go down the stairs as he gets bigger??

He has been outside for a little while, have bought him in and then he squats and pees not even after 1 min of him being in! As he has been outside...I am maybe just giving him too much credit, thinking that he has gone??

I have been cleaning up the verandah constantly, but my concern is if he is going to constantly smell his business is he going to think thats the p[lace to go??

you will just need to keep on with the housebreaking. taking him once he has been feed, after he has played, after he has slept etc.

to get rid of the pee smell so the puppy is unable to smell it try usually vinegar and water in a spray bottle or bleach, or even a spray designed to cover these smells. try also using treats and a lead to encourage the puppy to peeing on the grass

how old is the puppy?

If I want my dogs to not use a particular part of the garden for toileting I feed them in that area - I just scatter some food around for them to 'hunt' for. As dogs dont tend to soil the feeding area they stop using the area to toilet. Has worked 100% so far. After cleaning out the urine smell can you scatter his dried food around in the morning for a few mornings and see if that stops him.

Also - I have steps on my back porch so I got a long plank and made a ramp for them go up and down as pups.
