charliedane
Hi everyone, I have an 8 month old great dane, Charlie. About a week ago he had x-rays done and has been diagnosed with a form of elbow displaysia, UAP. My vet has given me a refferal to a specialist called Chris Preston. I was just wondering if any one else out there has had positive or negative dealings with some of the specialists out there, as I am not willing to put Charlie in the hands of just anyone. Any issues or success stories you might have had, I would love to hear to get a feel of who and what is out there. Thanks, Leah.
Kavik
I'm not sure where you are, I am in Sydney My experience with speciaslists has been positive. My GSD Diesel broke his leg at 6 months of age - spiral fracture. We went to Andrew Marchevsky, who at the time was at the Veterinary Specialist Centre (VSC), now is at Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH). He was great! Diesel needed an external fixatur and cage rest so it was quite stressful for us trying to keep him quiet, but Andrew is a great surgeon and also a great guy. I later worked with him when I got a job at VSC.
charliedane
Thank you for your reply Kavik. I am in Melbourne so am searching and searching. I have heard a bad story about the one I was reffered to so am trying to figure out if it was just a case of 'bad luck' as unfortunate as it is and looking to blame someone (surgeon) or if there really is an issue with this specialist. alanglen
My strong suggestion would be to consider Dr Charles Kuntz, great person and very talented surgeon.
Nekhbet
http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/assets/dr%2...l%20process.pdf I found this on it ... make sure they look into his diet and exercise as well not just jumping straight into the surgery

My little fellow had a dreadful time as a result of a trip to this clinic. I certainly would NOT recomend it. A few thousand dollars less in my bank and no improvement for my boy, in fact he's worse off! There is a very well respected physio named Michelle Monk at the Southern animal emergency centre in Highett. Might be worth getting an opinion from her? Good luck. Charles Kuntz
CHris is a good surgeon- fairly aggressive. When it comes to elbow diseases, you will have a hard time finding someone with more experience than Chris. Charles
cavNrott
Another vote here for WING TIP WONG. He did both TWLO surgeries on my dog.

charliedane
Thank you everyone for your responses ;) I have stressed over this for a few weeks now and have decided to put my trust in my vet and go with Dr Preston and I hope it all ends up with a positive result. Any success stories would be lovely to hear still though
