Stitch
A small amount of crusty crud in the corner of the eyes is normal. It is the result of the eye cleaning out the dust that has accumulated in it. Creamy yellow gunk however is usually associated with infection so you need to monitor it incase you need to get antibiotics to clear it up. An old remedy was to get a used tea bag in warm water and just wipe the eye clean. This works for very mild cases but if the eye/s are infected you need to see a vet ASAP. luvsdogs
You could also use a very mild salt water solution to wipe them with. About 1/4 tsp to a cup of boiled, cooled water. Edited May 8, 2009 by luvsdogs
Red Fox
Cammomile tea is another good option for cleaning eyes. My dog gets a lot of gunk too, especially when it's been dry and dusty. We've had a bit of rain lately and his eye's seem to be a lot cleaner in the morning so I think it has a lot to do with environment But if there is lots of gunk and it's yellow or greenish and occurring constantly through-out the day it could be an infection. If thats the case you'll need to get to the vet.

dianed
You could also use a very mild salt water solution to wipe them with. About 1/4 tsp to a cup of boiled, cooled water. I have found the salt solution best also. After using two tubes of ointment from the vet we still had the problem. Bathing in the salt clears it up.
