Teebs
Ok, i have only seen hotspots from photos on here, so dont really know what they are like in real life. Spook, our Aussie bulldog has a 'thing' behind her ear. I didnt actually realise there was anything wrong, i bathed her today and she has a black spot there, it wasnt until i had her in the bath cleaning it i saw it was more than just some crap she rolled in. No fur loss, it is about 3cms wide, and just oozing pussy stuff. It wasnt there 2 days ago (i was over playing and she was clean and nothing behind her ear) They are going to the vets tomorrow at 9, but i just wanted to see if that is how a hot spot starts? or is it something else? Twinkletoes
My toy poodle got a hotspot recently, and it sounds very similar. I found a site online that says Friars Balsam was good to use. I went to the vet, but after 5 days on antibiotics and some cream they gave me he started to break out with more in the surrounding area. The Friars Balsam cost me about $4 at the chemist, I just dabbed it on with a cotton bud...smells pretty bad. I also washed my boy with Malaseb during the week and cleaned the area with Apple cider vinegar (with the mother in it) on alternate days. A couple of hours after washing with the vinegar I reapplied the Friars Balsam. They dried up within about 3 days. I would still recommend a vet visit to be certain though. If you google hotspots, there is a good bit of information out there. Good luck
oakway
If it is a hot spot, Listerine Antiseptic put into a small spray bottle and sprayed twice a day will cure it in few days.

No, the Listerine doesn't sting. Something to do with the yellow barrier that stops it stinging. Don't forget dogs are less bodily sensitive than people. tashnchief
I second the listerine! It's fantastic will dry it up within days. My vet also prescribed Neocort but said honestly it will probably just keep it moist and that isn't really the effect you want...she told me to use listerine. The listerine dries it out and the alcohol kills the bacteria. Clip the area if you can as well.
