Poppy's Cast Has Started To Smell

Poppy's cast has gone stinky

She has an appointment with her specalist this afternoon. Pretty sure the cast will have to be cut off.

I am praying that it is only her elbow that has rubbed on the cast and caused a sore. I have poked cotton buds into the cast and the elbow area is where a bit of wetness and the stink is. Everywhere else the cotton bud comes out clean.

She is still using her leg and isn't running a temprature.

Any smell what so ever straight to the vet. Its imperative.

Specalist has seen her and he wasn't going to take the cast off untill I hinted that he really should. He actually didn't think it smelt so bad.

It took 3 of us to hold her still to get a sedative injection into her.

Turns out that the cast was rubbing on her elbow and where a pin was inserted, which is what I thought was happening. I think that a small abscess drained itself as it stunk more when we took the bandages off the cast then when we opened the cast up itself. Apart from a little rubbing the leg is healthy. The incision, where the operation was performed has healed up nicely.

Poppy had her leg cleaned, rebandaged and the front of the cast put back on.

She is still groggy but I bet back to screaming to be out of her crate agian tomorrow.
