Akay
Hi there I'm looking for recommendations for a good dermatologist in Brisbane. I think it's about time I take my little fella to one to get to the bottom of his skin allergies. Do you have to get a referral from a vet or can you just make an appointment directly? Can anyone give me a brief account of the costs involved.... just a ballpark figure is ok :-) It would also be great to hear about people's good and bad experiences with dermatologists. Thanks everyone! Edited April 26, 2009 by Akay

Thanks everyone! Dr Mike Shipstone - works southside a couple of days a week, then northside a couple of days and even does sunny coast. We had our first consult with him on Wed - really lovely informative doctor that takes the time to answer all you question and takes a thorough history! Then explains allergies to you from beginning to end. Yes you will need a referral from your own vet and they can fax that to the clinic closest to you where he works. After your vet visit you call that clinic book an appointment. First consult is $146 and intradermal skin testing is $400. Not sure what all other things will cost as injection are based on how many allergens need to be added to the solution. Good Luck!
mika
We went to a dermatologist in Sydney so I cant help with Brisbane names but the cost was $300 this included multiple skin scapes and a long consult (an hour plus). It was definately worth it as it resolved our problem(we had been to 2 vets and the second one suggested the specialist)It was probably cheaper than having multiple local vet visits.Good luck. Akay
FirstTimePuppyOwner ~ Thanks so much for the recommendation of specialist, I have heard of him (he works at QVS at West Chermside) so I thought he may be a bit more expensive than others as QVS do charge a lot. But if he is good then I'm willing to pay the money! Mika~ That's what I thought too, I have to go back to the vet with his skin and all they do is give antibiotics etc, which only make a difference for a couple of weeks. I'm better off paying a little bit extra initially and having the problem solved for good. It works out much cheaper in the long-run. Hopefully I can get the problem resolved like you did. Thanks for your help!

No worries and he is actually in line with what other dermatologist charge as I was going to see one on the southside but there was only about $30 odd dollars difference!
