Silly Question ?

Sorry this question is probably very silly but after having our old dog put to sleep in Feburary we are getting a new pup the last week in May. This pup is coming from a purebred breeder who I have only spoken to on the phone. I feel very naieve when speaking to her and seeing we are going to visit in a few weeks what questions should I have for her and what sort of questions would she be asking me ??

I have only owned two dogs in my life the first living till 17 and the last one till 16 and they were both give aways

I havnt bought from a breeder before and have no idea but I supose some q's might be

-view the parents

-parents temprement and health

-any known probs with the breed that you should look out for

-if the pup will be wormed and vacc, and when and what you should continue to do

-if they toilet train the pup and what you should do to continue the training

I would think to ask q's about the dog and also q's that would indicate how well they look after their own dogs (eg opinion on training methods, how often they bath a dog, how often and how much to feed a puppy/dog)

Oh and dont accept the pup until its over 8wks (I personally think 10wks is a good age.. everyone is diffrent though)

Given the bred is a cavie the first thin i would want to see is current heart certificates for both parents.If they dont heart test dont buy(you can ask this before you visit ).

*So you want to see heart clearances

*view the bitch

*male isnt always possible to see

*Ask about any conditions.contract agreements.

*read up about the breed & note things that your not sure of & ask.

Just talk & things will get covered.presuming you hav eresreached the breed already & now all its good/bad points talking will be easier than you think

write down everything.

I would sooner as a breeder be asked something stupid than nothing at all.

Have your list & basically ask the breeder if they can give you a run down on the parents.pups & health.That should cover alot of what your thinking about.

Then ask about diet,vaccs & any other breed specific things they recommend.

Ask what food the pup grew up on, where they have been living during the day and night and ask to view it, ask to see a feeding chart (breeders are meant to keep them).
