BUGGA-LUGZ
Hi....I hope this doesnt sound too stupid but..... I am a regular customer to Pet Barn. Every time I go there they give 'freebie' treats to bring home. I have never given any of these treats to my dogs as I am unsure if they are good for them as they dont have any info on the packaging. I have now got quite a few of these packets. I never remember to ask the staff when I am there and its not in my local town. They are called Chewy Bits. Some are shaped like the Smacko's strips but are quite hard and are yellow and red and some are in the shape of donuts only smaller. I am also worried about them being a choking hazzard. Does anyone else get these and do you give them to your dogs? ETA: The dogs I have are 2 young British Bulldog pups. Would they be safe to give??? puggy_puggy
I would chuck them out. Things like that are full of fat, preservatives, chemicals and colouring. Give them a bone or raw veggies to chew on. Edited April 20, 2009 by puggy_puggy
BUGGA-LUGZ
Thanks for that Puggy Puggy . I'm glad I never gave them any, all going in the bin now. I always buy Smacko's for my pups as a treat and they love them. I'm very fussy about what to feed them and those hard thingy's never 'looked' right. Thanks again. ;)
k9kutz
IMO Schmakos are just as bad of not even worse than those rawhide things they were giving you at pet barn. Why not try some dried liver or look for some natural (ie free of colous, preservitives, artifical flavourings etc). I always tell people just skip that whole pet food isle in the supermarket cause no good can come from it.

Yep if you look on a Schmackos pack you will see presevatives & colourings listed as ingedients.
BUGGA-LUGZ
I only ever give them as a treat when training them, they never get alot of them at once. I was breaking 1 strip up between 2 pups as a reward. I guess I wont give them from now on. I dont buy supermarket dog food for them they are both on premium foods, it was only the schmacko's I occassionally bought.
dead sheep
for training or just little bits of treats you should try http://happypawstreats.com.au/ . They are completely natural and chemical/preservative/additive free. for big treats to keep them occupied, I give them a piece of dehydrated roo tail or a bone. I used to give them smackhos and all sorts of stuff I would pick up but there is just too much shit in them. dead sheep
good stuff Bugga the lady who makes the treats is a member on this forum. When the treats arrive, keep them out of puppy's reach see here if you would like to learn why http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=156602 Edited April 20, 2009 by kosti
