Nose Bleed

My 3 year old usually healthy girl had a MASSIVE nose bleed at 4 am this morning. My house looked like there had been a murder and she managed to get it in every room even the shower!

I had heard her snuffing and licking but thought one of the dogs was licking their feet. After a bit I got up and saw my poor love covered in blood.

I tried to stop it with pressure and ice, it would clot then she would snuff out the clot and it would go again, I rang my vet after 30 mins and said I cant stop it.

Soooooo at 5.15 this morning he had to give her a General Anaesthetic to look up her nostril (only one bleeding, not a clotting disorder as vWD Clear and clotted fine, Packed Cells ok on Blood test was 44), we initially had it stopped at the vet but as soon as I put her back in the car to go home she snotted it out again so GA it was.

The vet saw no foreign body, no wound and had to tightly stuff a big ribbon gauze in her nose which needs to stay for 3 days.

It appeared to be bleeding from higher up than he could see.

I called her breeder (a vet nurse in Vic) who alled her boss who thinks it might have been a leech (apparently they bleed like stuck pigs when the leech detatches) Do we even have leeches in SA?

Yesterday about 3 pm she had a tiny trickle of blood from her nose (same side) but it stopped spontaneously. SHe had just been playing with a piece of dry leafy stick that my feral puppy had pulled off a tree so I assumed was a poke in the nose. She hasnt hit her head or played rough with anyone lately.

This is freaking me out any ideas?
