That sounds nice and easy and I didn't even think of it. Will give it a go tomorrow. Thanks

kallistar
Can anyone tell me how to train for positions in motion please? Hi, are you triaining for UDX ? If so try slowing down and verbalize the position/s that you want from your dog and as soon as they comply, heavily praise your dog.. Remember that you can use either a voice or signal for the positions but not together in this exercise

Remember that you can use either a voice or signal for the positions but not together in this exercise Thankyou, I hope to get to UDX eventually but haven't even started trialling yet - hopefully May. He is not my first dog (although it's been so many years ago that CCD and UDX weren't even invented) so I have been teaching him what I felt went together well eg retrieving, scent discrimination and seek back; drop on recall and distance control etc. (He's a BC - what can I say? Nothing's too difficult, and I'm not biased in the least ) Apart from out of sight stays and directed jumping, he's doing all the exercises up to UD but not to trialling standard yet. I tried the positions in motion today and it was pretty easy. Leaving him was a breeze; he needed a prompt to come with me when collecting him. The hardest part was me - getting my left leg perfectly postioned for him when collecting him. I think we'll have this nailed in a couple of weeks. luvsablue
Can anyone tell me how to train for positions in motion please? Not a real difficulty where your leg is in relation to the dog. I used to try leaving her with my right leg, which made me hesitate. Then I found that after she caught on to it it didn't matter which leg. Initially I added the word stay and kept walking. But as mentioned by kallistar 19th April, slow it down at first. The trickiest thing for me was the dog anticipating the position and doing it as soon as the judge called it. Also I used lots of reward for quick responses in the initial stages. And I would walk around her after she dropped, sat etc. ot turn around as soon as I commanded so I was in front of the dog. After a while they do it with voice only or a hand signal. I couldn't think up a signal for the sit in motion, so only use a voice command for it.
