cashew
Found a small lump underneath my dog's skin near his shoulder area. It can be moved around but is not causing any pain to him. Not too sure if the lump is the result of his microchip (been there for 6 years). Made an appointment to see the vet later. Hope it is nothing serious. So worried for the little guy. puggy_puggy
Is it hard and not movable or sort of soft and movable? Vet will do a fine needle biopsy to see if they can get anything. Whatever comes out of it will be put onto a slide to be examined under the microscope to see if it's just a fatty lump or something to worry about. cashew
It's not soft but definitely moveable. I can move it around with the skin. My boy is terrific of needles and will cling on to me for dear life
puggy_puggy
If it's movable then more likely to be either a fatty lump or infection from maybe a grass seed. The needle is tiny and unlike vaccinations do wont sting.

I sure hope it's nothing serious. Have been frightening myself all morning reading up on lumps and tumours I will bring some treats along to distract my little guy. He is quite a sissy when it comes to needles. Our next door neighbour's schnauzer coincidentally just had a lump removed at his shoulder weeks ago. Neighbour said that the vet thought it was his microchip but when operated on and taken out, there was no chip in the lump. Thanks Puggy. Good to know the needle won't sting that much. benny123
We found a hard round lump on spud's tail last week when we were giving him a massage/checking for ticks (even though we're no longer in a tick area, old habits die hard). It was quite hard and about the size of a large pea. We didn't play with it too much to see if it moved or not and just went straight to the vet. She played with it and said that it didn't seem to be attached and then did a fine needle biopsy - turned out to be a cyst. Phew. Good luck with your doggy, hope it's as simple as Spud's. cashew
Thanks Benny 123. Vet did a needle biopsy and some fluid came out. He said it's either a serona or cyst and it is small and unlikely to cause any issues. So glad.
puggy_puggy
Good news. My boy has a fatty lump on his chest. Has so for about a year or more now. I just check it every now and again to make sure it is not growing or changing.
Staffyluv
Lumps should always be checked with a fine needle aspirate - even if the vet 'thinks' it is nothing to worry about, please for the sake of you dogs, request the aspirate... For a while we thought Ollie has a lipoma (because he had a couple of others) - when we finally checked it, it turned out to be Mast Cell Cancer. becks
Cashew, minis are prone to fatty lumps, especially once they get to middle age, so do keep an eye on him and feel him all over for any new lumps, often they are nothing to worry about but occasioanlly a larger one may form a head and you can squeeze out the most disgusting looking cottage cheese and then it will heal up. As others have said, do get thevet to check any new lumps.
