Raw Meat From Pet Barn

Is the raw meat from Pet barn ok to feed ?

& what sort of additives should I add , I am currently adding 2 fish oil caps , 1 tsp ground egg shell ,some cooked broccoli or beans

(no flaxseed oil ,no carrot ,potato pumpkin or anything starchy as he has yeast problems )

is there anything else I should add to his daily diet , he is a Cairn terrier , 3 in June , with allergies , yeast & bacterial skin

problems & he weights 11 kgs

Giving him some bones is very important

Chicken Frames / Lamb Briskit / Lamb Chine can all be totally

consumed are good for jaw muscles and teeth and are not

splintery or sharp and you won't have to find bones in the

lawn - nothing left to bury - get the butcher to cut them into

edible sizes, not too small they need to have a good chew -

just not big enough to have left overs to bury.

Raw food from pet stores is "pet grade" and is not as good as

"human grade" that has passed all the tests and is parasite free.

Kangaroo meat from pet stores may contain parasites and if

fed raw those will be transferred to the dog.

My advice is to befriend your local butcher and see what he can

make up for you. Add some offal to the diet like lamb liver,

kidneys, brains, beef heart etc they contain goodness that no

meat can offer and they will balance the diet.

I wouldn't be cooking veges as it takes a lot of nutrients out of

them. Try grating zuchinni and apple if you can't use carrot.

I would also be adding Vets All Natural (presoaked for 24hrs)

to the mix and the supplements I use are PetPepUp & some from

greenpet like the complete mix which I find very good.

I feed kangaroo from the pet produce shop but buy my chicken necks, offal, bones and muscle meat from either the supermarket or butchers.

Food process the veggies don't cook them. Put the eggs in there as well. Add some more green leafy veggies like spinach and alfalfa. You might like to add some fruit as well.

Do you feed bones as well as the muscle meat? Consumable bones are very important.

ohh.. i'm curious about feeding puppy kangeroo meat that they sell at supermarket and pet barn too!!

are they any good?!!?

my parents has only ever fed their dogs raw meat, seafood and bones... they have never fed their dogs normal dog food before, not even dry biscuits!!!

my parents get raw meat from their local butcher (who's also a good friend of dads)... who is happy to hand over kidneys, heart etc.. although, if you go to asian butcher.. you will get real cheap chicken heart, pig ears, pig foot, blood jelly too!!!

(i'm asian.. asian eat weird stuff.. LOL)

on the dogs birthday.. they get a whole chicken to themselves! LOL

i find pet barn to be a huge rip off and never go there.

i get my meat from the butcher, or the pet meat shop in town or the fresh meat guy (add in the DOL listings)

Hi,

Meat is meat where ever you purchase it.

The only difference is, what you purchase from the butcher/supermarket has been hygienically processed for human consumption.

What you get for pet food has not necessarily been processed in the same manor.
