I am feeding my puppies Royal Canin medium junior and was thinking about Artemis after reading posts on this forum. I like the idea of little to no grains even though RC only has a small amount of filler as a binding agent. I am interested in peoples thoughts.

I have fed both RC and Artemis (which is what I feed currently to one dog, the other two are on a raw diet). I prefer the ingredients in Artemis and the Royal Canin I was feeding had maize as the first ingredient.

The most important thing is to feed what your dog does best on, no one food works for every dog and Artemis doesn't agree with some dogs.

Thank you. The RC i feed has dehydrated chicken as it's first ingredient which i am happy about. The only think i find is that there are an aweful lot of poos to pick up and that are large volume.

Generally switching to a diet that is lower in grain or cuts out grains will decrease the dog's daily poos.

Do you feed many raw bones in their diet too?

Yes i give them lamb shanks and lamb flaps which they love. They have a new lamb shank every second day. I also give sardines a couple of times a week as well as some of a small amount of cooked vegies in rice, just a spoonful over their kibble. I cut the kibble down according to the extras i give. They get an occasional pig ear as a treat too.

The lamb plus Artemis might be too much. Lamb is pretty fatty, and I think it's Artemis' fat content that has disagreed with one of my boys. He's been Mr Farty since I switched so I'm going to switch back to Royal Canin Maxi/Eagle Pack.

mmm... my dogs fart like crazy if ever I give them lamb...must be the fat content

Mine did really well on RC. They are on purina selects for the veges in it and rice barley opposed to corn. is OK too. Havent tried artemis as i feed raw as well.

I feed artemis weight management (well, I'm only going to need one bag since Zero will be down to the weight he's supposed to be by the time i finish this bag) and it's been fantastic. His poo is better, his coat is better and he looks and (judging by the way he's bouncing around) feels better too. The discharge from his eyes has practically stopped and today was the first time i've wiped gunk out of them in over a month. I'll be moving him off the weight management when i get him the next bag but I don't think he'll have any complaints when he changes.

My cat is on Royal Canin and no complaints there either - try artemis and if you don't like it, go back onto royal canin.
