firedrop
Was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can easily find start flags they use at the start of a tracking course. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FD
FHRP
I use an electric fence post with bright surveyors tape tied to it. Do you need the actual flag, or just a marker?

Hi FHRP :nahnah: Just need the marker, not worried about flag - I'll just use a piece of material. FD
FHRP
A step in electric fenec post will do the job then :nahnah: Available at rural supply or even stock feed supply stores! Mine look like this without the 'pig tail' at the top:
sandgrubber
depends on what sort of soil you have. In soft sand like we have in Perth metro you can get away with ordinary bamboo garden stakes . . . the electric fence posts are great, but somewhat expensive if you use a lot of them. At one point I had a metal worker make a pile of stakes made from thin (~2 mm) rod sharpened on one end. These lasted forever and were quite cheap. They were ok in heavy soil. Yep - that's the sort of glags we use here in competition - fibreglass rods sharpened at one end, and with a couple of little holes drilled in the top end to string a flag onto. For training I just use an electric fence dropper as described
