Teeth Cleaning Product

The product looks like it may work. How much is it?

I use a product I get from my vet called Maxiguard Oral Cleansing Gel.

'

It has Zinc and Vit C as the ingredients and has no side effects.

I just put one drop on my finger or on a finger brush and apply to each canine tooth twice a day and the mouth naturally spreads it around all the teeth.

It works wonders in cojunction with raw feeding.

Some dogs have great salivar that keeps their teeth clean and others need a little help.

Half of my dogs always have clean teeth without doing anything and the other half need to have their teeth cleaned or they get tartar and plaque which causes problems.

It depends on their genetics.

I think it is 22.95 USD plus postage. A friend of mine was also interested as she has cats and dogs. I was thinking the spray as i do brush her teeth everyday but makes no difference as they are already stained yellow. We were going to order it together and spilt the postage cost.

My girl suffers from Pancreastitias so she cannot eat bones / dental treats etc. I really need to get her teeth clean but i'm not keen on the whole vet visit cleaning idea.

I think Lizzy's is from the tin food i have to feed her.

Yes it probably is from the fat content of the tin food.

My 11 year old girl has sparkling white teeth and so does her 8 year old son. Have never had to clean them and never any problems.

Then I have the 5 year old brother and sister who have already had their teeth cleaned by the vets twice and need daily brushing to keep their mouths healthy, so I really do think and the dental specialist agrees with me that its the genetics of the saliva produced by the mouth that is the difference as they all eat exactly the same things.

I also have a 15 year old and I need to clean his teeth for him as he can't chew bones anymore due to having some broken molars removed in the past.

Next time your'e at the vet ask if you can have some Maxiguard Oral Cleansing Gel. It's only about $25 from memory. Would save on the conversion rates and postage from USA.

Yep - that's the enemy - she will always have build up if she stays on canned food. Any reason she can't have bones?

Many people won't give pugs bones - you ought to see what my 21 mth old pug - Lizzy is capable of eating.

She is on low fat tin food though. It is only 1.8% fat because of her pancreatitias. Ok will def ask the vet about that. Does it come in a spray bottle at all?

Because fat / marrow with give her an attack of pancreatitias straight away and then she will be sick for two weeks. My mum has got hold of a Brisket Bone that apparantly has No marrow and the butcher is going to trim the fat, do u know if digesting the actual bone would harm her pancreas?

No - can't say I am of any help once diet issues are there, I have been very lucky in the past and have never had any pets that don't tollerate what mother nature intended - regardless of the animals. I grew up on a farm and never even knew of the majority of health issues that I see these days.

Hopefully someone who does will answer this for you.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! She was a perfectly healthy little dog and i had never known a dog to have health issues until she was fed a certain Chicken Treat from China. Now she has alot of health issues. Makes me so mad!!!! We had heaps of dogs as kids and none never seemed to have any problems arise.

Hi Lizzie

I use Petz Life - Oral Care Gel. Is basically grapefruit based.

I only need it on 2 of 4, have been exceptionally happy with it in terms of shifting quite heavy plaque on back teeth.

At $150 each I was not keen to get up to 6 dogs done at the vets. Greyhounds (ex racers anyway) are renowned for poor teeth.

My boy has lots of allergies and this was ok on him too.

The gel is expensive (about $50 a bottle) but literally lasts FOREVER.

Guest Willow

I use "Pet Dental" toothpaste by Four Paws on one of my dogs. He likes the taste better than other products we have tried. He had a history of severe tartar buildup just a few weeks after having them surgically scaled, so I tried this & it's working really really well so far. It's been 6 months since his last dental & his teeth are looking good.

My other dog is much older and never has any dramas with his teeth, and they eat the same stuff, so maybe there is something in the saliva theory!

depends on the severity of the teeth - if there is now inflammation of the gums or heavy calculus (plaque) it would be better for a quick sedation and clean the teeth, remove the bad ones and start with a clean state.

once they get past a point or the bacteria get under the gun you cannot clean it with toothbrush alone.

as for the pancreatitis there are many dry foods available for it - Hills, Royal Canin and Eukanuba make vet ranges. Speak to your vet about what she is allowed to have and some dry food will give her something to crunch on.

If your dog cannot eat dental treats then I wouldnt be giving it ANY bones at all - all bones have a degree of fat or marrow inside them and the meat content can still be fatty enough to tip them over the edge.
