FB Rescue_Adoption
Wow! so you guys are getting your own stuff? Is that so you can practice at home? I'm really interested in Agility but I don't even know where to start.. can you guys give me any info on where I could go to learn more about how to train in this sport. It looks like it would be soo much fun

It looks like it would be soo much fun Hi , the best place to start would be at a club. I did agility with my obedience club, but there is also seperate agility clubs too. It depends on where you are located. Your dog has to be 18months plus before they are allowed to do all the activities ...mainly the jumping. However you can still do the weaving, tunnel, A frame and the board walk just to get started
Vickie
That's cool Rubedoo . Having your own stuff is great & helps with training so much, especially for weaving & contacts. I finally bought my first competition weave poles last week. I wish I hadn't waited so long, they are GREAT!!! Your dog has to be 18months plus before they are allowed to do all the activities ...mainly the jumping. However you can still do the weaving, tunnel, A frame and the board walk just to get started I would not recommend weaving (other than basic entries) or full sized Aframes (other than an end behaviour) for dogs under 12-18 months (depending on growth). Tunnels are fine, but too much too soon can create a tunnel suck pretty easily. Edited March 30, 2009 by Vickie

RubyStar
Woohoo! If I had a large yard, I'd look at getting my own equipment too when I finally get back to agility! (I only did it for under a year )
Roguedog
Rubeedoo - where did you order your jumps and weave poles from? I got them through a fellow DOLer, he probably has a list of buyers an arm long by now if you pm Amerykus, she can give you more details. Woohoo! If I had a large yard, I'd look at getting my own equipment too when I finally get back to agility! (I only did it for under a year ) I have a huge flat, grassed yard (no trees) and its gone to waste until now... my other half is already complaining about how much more he has to mow the lawn to keep it constantly ok for agility practice

Roguedog
woohoo!! my tunnel just arrived!!! I only ordered it monday arvo so im VERY impressed at how quick airdogs put my order through.... unfortunately its raining cats-and-dogs here at the moment so the dogs havent tried it yet, my son loves it though, I extended it in the loungeroom and he has spent the last half hour in it! its exactly what I wanted, great length and height (not as big as the competition ones but big enough to fit most dogs) and made from a canvas material so it should last me quite a while. now I just have to wait until friday for the jumps and weavers!! My puppies (Stella - 2yrs, Max 7mths) would love to do this.. sometimes when we go to the park (and it's just us there, no kids around) I encourage them to go through the tunnel of the childrens play equipment and climb the steps and then go down the little slide. At first they were like 'hey, what is up with all this??' but now after having done it each week for about a month now, they know what to do and I can sit Stella at one end and call her and she will do it all by herself! Sometimes she gets so excited about it that she barks through it the whole time!! I think she would love to get into this and I would love seeing her enjoy it! I've enquired at 'Action Dogs' and have put our names on the (2yr!) waiting list.. I may enquire elsewhere also...does anyone know of any Agility clubs in Vic, Eastern Suburbs that they would recommend?
JulesP
I go to Croydon Obedience Club and they have an agility program. You need to pass the obedience test first and the dogs need to be about 15months old. Training is on Sunday mornings and Monday nights.

Staff'n'Toller
Berwick Obedience also have agility, we are having SO much fun there right now. They have a puppy foundations course (no jumps or weaves) you need to put your name down on a list but it's not hugely long right now AFAIK. With adults it's similar to Croydon, you need to pass a certain level of obedience.
