Ideas To Clean Teeth

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for suggestions on how to clean my girls teeth. She has Pancreatitias so she cannot have bones, treats etc. I brush her teeth every night with a kids soft toothbrush and dog paste. But they are still filthy doesn't seem to do anything. I don't want to take her to the vet and have her knocked out to clean them as the last time i took her for follow up blood tests she got sick again and i'm unsure if it was the vet visit that set her off again. I have seen a few dog teeth cleaning treats around that say min 1% fat. The vet told me to stay clear because you don't know what the max fat content is and there is no law on it.

I have a mint toy i give her to play with and chew on, also doesn't seem to do much. It is meant to be good for their teeth as well.

Trimmed Chicken frames would have almost no fat on them....

have a read HERE

i'm affraid i couldn't even risk her with trimmed ones. She had an attack two weeks ago and i have no idea what sparked it besides a visit to the vet. I was giving her a little low fat cottage cheese and natural yoghurt.... they have since been cut from her diet. It sucks everything says and overweight dog etc having problems. She is only a skinny-normal weight little thing and always has been!

looks like i shouldn't even be giving her the mint flavoured teeth cleaning treat then!!
Whatever you buy... read the label[/quote]

If it is full of colourings, flavourings and has only a minimum fat content... leave it there!

What is she being fed?

Try getting kangaroo tail/backbone.. and letting her gnaw the meat off... that's what cleans teeth...NOT crunching bones..the long slow gnawing action!!

kangaroo is very low in fat.

Do some asking to find out the fat content... I have no idea, but thought it may be useful.
