Mikhala
Hi, I have just got a 9 week old puppy, ive had him for a week now and ever since we get him he has had a little blood in his stools, he does 1 normal poo then about a minute later he will do a second which is a little runny and has a drop of blood right at the end about the size of a pea. He is acting completely normal, playing, eating well and doesnt appear to be in any pain and was wormed a week ago by the breeder... I spoke with the breeder and she said it could be because he has eaten something sharp in the yard and just to watch it, the thing is he is inside most of the day and i watch him when he is outside... its also probably important to add that he has a small umbilical hernia which may have something to do with it? Does anyone know what may be causing this?
persephone
Hi--- difficult over the internet. What did the vet say when you took him for his health check? if you have not had him health checked.. .it may be an idea to do it ASAP. Blood when pooing ...for a week... is not normal. It may well be a tear somewhere... but a vet check is the only sure way to find out.
rish
Does anyone know what may be causing this? I think we are all thinking the same thing, but we dont want to say it PARVOVIRUS (sp). get ur pet to the vet straight away, bleeding over 1 weeki would say (if its PARVO) would be a good thing, because the pup has some fight in it. If its not AV,then 1would ask,if i beeld from the back-side over 1 week, would i see a docter ?

So a couple of weeks ago you were asking the most basic of questions about how to look after your dog, and now you are diagnosing Parvo over the internet??? Mikhala, I would say the breeder is right, but best get checked by a vet to make sure. Umbi hernias are nothing to worry about and will probably disappear as his muscle tone develops. I had one that was quite noticeable, vet said it is just a bit of trapped fat and will never be a cause for concern. it can be easily fixed at time of desexing if it concerns you Edited March 28, 2009 by gareth
3Woofs
My pup had bloody poo for 2 1/2 weeks. Vet said it must have been a sharp piece of bone from the chicken necks we were feeding her and it caused a little anal tear that would bleed every time she poo'd, and I was advised to feed her softened food until the bleeding had stopped. Best thing would be to take your dog to the vet for a check up to make sure it isn't anything too sinister.
rish
So a couple of weeks ago you were asking the most basic of questions about how to look after your dog, I was asking what i didn't know. I think it's a pretty easy thing to ask /add PARVO if there is blood in the stool's,(but it should be mixed through it). But hopfully it is a tear, nothing more. Ur a catty person aren't u !. Did u think i would run and hide from ppl like you !? You laugh at other's,your rude ,and u need to mind your manner's.
