ruthless
Does anyone get their high-end printing done through online companies? Or do you use someone local to you? I'm starting to get some enquiries for paying jobs and I'm not sure if paying Eastern Suburbs of Sydney prices makes the best business sense! Gayle.
I use Digital Works in Melbourne, they are fantastic. I've always had my prints done by them, aside from snapshots which I do at Officeworks. http://digitalworks.onpix.com/owners/index.asp (Their website looks like crap, but their prints are excellent). PossumCorner
Use the best printer you can find. Digital Works are excellent: no problem in using inter-state finishers if you find one that suits you, they are very quick turnaround. We've always found Camera House good too. I'd suggest you shouldn't hesitate to pay top price if you are doing work for a client, at whatever level. As you get more orders and experiment with different finishers, you'll find one that is both top quality and reasonable price, and once they "get to know you" you get more personalised service with like you say your high end work whether by phone or over the counter. Digital Works do the prints for a lot of top Melbourne wedding photographers, so do Camera House.
ruthless
The place I've been in touch with are really good and they've agreed to cut me some sort of deal if I put all my printing through them. I just don't know if their prices are good. I've nothing to compare them to! I'll ask those places you mentioned to send me their price lists. Thanks
Gayle.
Ruth, if you download the Digital Works software and install it, it has the current price list on it. Just go through the motions of placing an order (you don't actually need to do it) and the price list pops up. The software is easy to get rid of if you don't want to keep it (it's just to upload files to their server).

kja
+1 for Digital Works. I can put an order in on a Tuesday and have here in my hot little hand on a Thursday. I don't know how they do it coz lord knows no other company gets stuff to me as fast. Their prints have been spot on every time. They offer a great range including metallic paper which is very cool, though I prefer to use it sparingly as it can be a little overwhelming! Customer support has also been excellent. Their software is super easy to use and I haven't had any glitches at all. I've also had prints done at...hmmm, what was the name of that place...The Edge. I found they tended just a teensy tad towards pink but my clients were over the moon with the prints.

Poo d'état
I've worked with photographers who use/d The Lab (Dank St, Waterloo), Vision Graphics (St Leonards) and PhotoTechnica in Chippendale (couldn't even find their website now, i hope they haven't gone under? They were pretty big). The Lab was always really good, and picking up prints was always great because we'd go and get a really nice coffee at Dank St Depot next door; i think they've since merged with Vision Graphic's Redfern arm (possibly a franchise) so not sure what they're like these days. helen
I also use digital works, they are excellent. There is another great pro lab in Melbourne but their name escapes me at the moment
