Jules, I have no idea about fetching and driving, but it looks like a great photo to me.

Fetching is when the dog is bringing the sheep to you regardless of wether you are stationary or moving. It goes you, sheep dog. Driving is when the dog is taking the sheep away from you and is you dog sheep. In Jules picture Poppy is fetching as the sheep are between her and the dog.

In this picture the dog is driving away from me - I am standing at the pen you can see in the right

In this one I am standing at the start peg C which in this arena is about 20m to the dogs left

Thank you Janba, great explanation. I sort of figured it was something like that, but with your excellent description and photos to go with that, I am fully understanding now.

Sure you will be fine Dova. I am looking forward to Saturday's herding clinic - hopefully Kenz remembers from the herding instinct test that the white woolie things weren't as scary as they were previously.

Had a fun clinic last weekend and got talked into entering a comp this weekend :D Don't think we are ready yet so the tummy is very upset.

Go out there smile :D & let your dog do it, or that's what I get told, leave the dog alone & let her work :o. Good luck .

Congratulations on your started pass JulesP :) . Kenz and I are home from the herding clinic and we both had a really good time. Ness was annoyed cos she wasn't allowed to go and chase the sheep. Kenz started off a little hesitant but did improve over the course of the day. Just wish we had more regular access to stock as I think she quite enjoys it and it certainly helps with her confidence issues.

Glad to hear Kenzie got into it Ness. It is tricky not getting much time on sheep. I only train when I go to clinics, so Poppy would have had less than an hour on sheep this year prior to this comp. I do lots of 'stops' out in my paddock but that is about it. The stops do mean I have a brill drop on recall now :)

Kenz just needs time and exposure to develop confidence :) .

ETA. Piper sent me through some photos she took and funny Kenz actually does look to be focused on herding - it so doesn't feel like it sometimes  .

I got one pass in Started and missed out on a second by half a point. Both were pretty messy so I am not super happy about it. Got some work to do!

Congrats JulesP, if it was messy & you still got the pass just think what will happen when everything comes together, you'll be unbeatable :mad .

We had a sort of reasonable weekend I guess :D, Izzi got high in trial with 96 points & her HSAS title, Pebbles got R/U high in trial 91 points & her HSAS title & Delta passed her instinct on Sunday, passed both PT's Monday, got the judges encouragement prize & got her PT, soooo :mad:rofl: ;) :):rock: it wasn't to bad a weekend , I LOVE MY DOGS & am just busting to brag to the world at the moment :whee:.

Go Izzi, Pebbles and Delta ;) . Maybe you need another dog now :) . I know you can borrow Kenz and get her PT for me  .

Had one lot of people say they'll take Delta & someone else wants Izzi so if I decide to give those two away I'll have plenty of room, but don't hold you're breath :mad think I'm a bit attached to them all.

I only said borrow - too attached to the midget to let her go anywhere permanently she just needs somebody who understands sheep better then her (which totally rules me out of the equation ;) ).
