Baby Dragon
Does anyone give their dog Vitamin B supplements? Or does anyone know some foods high in Vitamin B that I can feed? I'm thinking of bananas, but not sure?? Thanks Edited March 26, 2009 by Baby Dragon
rijbiz
I give my girl Vitamin B1 after my dog physio suggested it. I buy the Betamin brand from the chemist as it is hell of a lot cheaper than most.
Red Fox
Brewers yeast contains vitamin B. It's available from most healthfood stores.
Baby Dragon
Thanks guys. What doses do you use? Do you give it every day?
4 Paws
I ahve purchased brewers Yeast for here http://www.callicoma.com.au/supplem1.htm
Miranda
If your dog eats red meat there is no need to supplement with any of the B vitamins. Muscle meat doesn't contain folic acid, but liver is a good source. Bananas only contain vitamin B6.
Baby Dragon
Thanks for the info. B6 is the one I'm particularly interested in actually, so that's good news about bananas I guess??
Miranda
I don't think dogs would be able to break down the banana sufficiently to utilise the available B6 and if you feed too much banana you might have a runny poo problem. I'd say supplementation is the way to go if you really think your dog's deficient.
Baby Dragon
I put banana in his frosty paws so I was just going to keep doing that, and look for a supplement. It seems like most B6 supplements have a lot of other things in them though that might not be ok for dogs.
Red Fox
1/2 teaspoon of brewers yeast mixed with dinner most days. I believe that 1 tsp per day is the correct amount for a large dog but as mine gets a good variety in his raw diet I only use 1/2.
