An old man wandered aimlessly, on a cold and rainy day.

He wished for friends and family, but all had passed away.

He thought he saw a movement from the corner of his eye.

An old shivering dog lay curled beneath the leaden sky.

The old man whistled for the dog, the sad sight made him weep.

Now if it follows me, he thought, this old dog I shall keep.

The old dog raised his shaggy head, with a longing in his eyes.

His tail was wagging slowly, as the old dog tried to rise.

Now the two became the best of friends, they were happy and content.

Until the old man knew one day, his time was nearly spent.

In his bed the old man lay, his heart was full of fear.

For the one that he would leave behind, the old dog that he held so dear.

But the angels came for both of them, that night as they both slept.

For the angels could not part them, so together they were kept.

They rose on wings together, up to heaven did they soar.

The old man and the shaggy dog, friends...forever more.

RIP MAHLI

DON'T GRIEVE TOO LONG

Don't grieve too long for now I'm free

I've followed the path God set for me

I ran to Him when I heard His call

I swished my tail and left it all.

I could not stay another day

To bark, to love, to romp or play

Games left unplayed must stay that way

I found such peace, it made my day.

My parting has left you with a void

Please fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss

Oh yes, these things I too shall miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life's been full, you've given so much

Your time, your love and gentle touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your head and share with me

God wanted me, He set me free!

thankyou to everyone for their kind farewells.

Mahli went missing on the 27.06.08

Ironocally, today 27.03.09- 9 months to the day, we will be bringing her ashes home.

It was indeed a long road, but she is finally back with her family- A promise we never once gave up on.

xx may she finally be able to R.I.P xx

how heartbreaking this must be for you and your family, i had so hoped that one day i would see the thread saying "she is home", sadly she is now home with you but not as you had hoped for.

Know that she is forever in your heart and no one can take that away from you..

RIP Mahli.

What a beautiful and thoughtful thing to do. It really touches the heart.

Bustam how are you holding up? I think about you often.

doing ok thanks baifra. the sadness seemed to ease the day after we had the ashes home- although we don't have the answers we need just yet, we do I guess have some type of closure.

what did make me smile was when I took the little timber box out to show our other dog, he honestly went ballistic! tail was going a hundred miles an hour and he was sniffing around it so hard I thought he was going to choke! It was like he knew, and was ecstatic that we finally had her home in one way or another...

Sometimes I don't think we give our dogs enough credit do we? They just know things.

They are also so intune with our feelings that he probably knew that you were at peace to a degree aswell. What a lovely boy!!

I know I was a little less heartbroken when our old girl came home to us last year when she went to the bridge. It just felt right to have her home where she belonged. Not the same for you though as I had the priviledge of being with her at the end. This you were robbed of and I hope more than anything that you find the answers you need to get through this absolute nightmare.

Take care Bustam.

The ghost dog stands at the foot of my bed,

Her head is tilted, but her eyes are sad,

She's gone to a place where the good dogs all go,

Where the sun always shines and the cold winds don't blow,

I call her name softly and fondle her ears

And cradle her head trying to hold back my tears.

She stays for a while then slowly turns away

her days are now free to wander and play

In the fields of her dreams she has many a friend

But I know she was mine right up to the end

She looks back and I see that her eyes are now shining

With a wag of her tail she leaves me

Still crying

Lynne

Thinking of you Bustam xxx

Times like these really test our strength. You should be very proud of the love and committment you gave to Mahli, particularly over the past terrribly excruciating and exhausting 9 months.

Sometimes life just really sux, but you sound like an amazing person Bustam. Mahli was so lucky that the days she spent here on this earth were with such a caring and compassionate person like you.
