Dog Food Recipes

I was wondering if you could post your favourite dog food recipes? I have just discovered 4 legs dog food and I am wanting to make something similiar. Does anyone have any recipes they are willing to share?

Aimee, there are loads of goodies you can put into some raw mince to feed regularly.

I buy cheap quality (not pet mince) beef mince from the supermarket and mix all pureed raw vegies like pumpkin, celery, carrot, apples, broccoli and then add natural yoghurt, sardines and offal into the mix. I feed BARF so I have to get the right balance of ingredients, and also feed lots of raw meaty bones, but there are lots of things you can mix into a raw mince mixture that you could feed to Ruby along with her dried food ;)

~Aimee~ I recommend you read "Give your dog a bone" or "Work wonders".

4 paws is not great food (not very healthy for dogs because of the high content of grains in it) so I would not feed it regularly. I do use it as a treat though for our agility or tracking training.

I stick in my slow cooker once a week

a kg or so of mince bought from butcher or supermarket

frozen mixed vegetables

water

pasta or rice

some mixed herbs

a bit of garlic

sometimes stock powder if i have some and remember

and cook it on slow for 5 or so hours if I'm home otherwise all day

this feeds with their biscuits my three (two being large dogs) for at least four dinners.

they love it ;)

I sometimes cook a nice warm meal for my dogs in Winter, the oldies really enjoy it and it isn't going to kill them.

I was just curious especially for people who feed it every week.

Sometimes I feed Cherry some cooked meat scraps (although not so much now she reacts to red meat).

Some dogs that have poor appetites will often accept cooked meals because the cooking intensifies the aroma.

Raw is the ideal but cooking does have it's place at times.

Yep I know, hence why I asked

why do I cook the mince

no reason really, cept it probably lasts longer cooked than raw in the fridge and indeed if I just feed them raw mince it only lasts a couple of nights yet the stew lasts four nights because it has the other stuff in it, i probably could just cook the other stuff but they do like the liquid from the stew.

On the other nights though my dogs get chicken wings and drumsticks, lamb necks and bones - all raw  so they get something to chew :)
