Puppy Pooing Constantly

Can someone tell me what is a "normal" amount of times for an 8 week old puppy to poop. My lab is pooing at least 10 times a day and I think this is excessive. What could be causing her to poo so much and should I maybe think of changing her food, we have her on IAMS puppy smart food.

Welcome to DOL Martymonty :)

Have you asked your breeder about the pooing and urinating worries you are having? They are always a good place to get initial advice as they know your puppy best.

Failing that, I would also take her to the vet and get her checked out and make sure she doesn't have any worms, a bladder infection or other health issues.

When it comes to the food, IAMS does have a relatively high grain content compared to other foods so you could consider changing her slowly over to something with a better quality food like Eagle Pack, Artemis or Royal Canin (there are loads of dried food suggestions in the Health forum).

She's eating twice a day, I had tried 3 times as recommended but then she got mass diahhrea so I went back to twice a day. I am feeding her what the breeder was giving her, just not sure it's the right one. I have an appt. with the vet on Wednesday and am going to discuss the possibility of switching her food and seeing if this does not help. He's going to do a test for worms as well since she was only dewormed once.

Feeding twice a day is fine for a lab pup, by the time mine leave they are on 2 feds a day. She needs to be wormed, my pups get wormed 4 times before going to their new homes.

some pups do toilet a lot, but i am not familiar with the food you are feeding so it's a bit hard to tell if it's normal.

Are you only feeding dry food or do you add anything to it?

Edited to add; Have you spoken to the breeder and checked that the food is the correct one. Never hesitate to contact the breeder if you have questions most are more than happy to help.

Do not rely solely on your vet for advice on what is best for your puppy - this is where the breeder and other lab owners are the best source of information. Unfortunately many vets will simply sell you what they stock - which is usually Hills.

I think Eukanuba or Royal Canin have a lab specific food.
