Yarrowfell
Can anyone tell me what vets they have used in Canberra. I understand I can just get my vet to draw blood and send to WA but I don't really want all the drama of getting the vet to do it if he has never done one before. Would be much easier to go to a vet that is used to doing it and knows exactly what to do.

While hep is extremely low risk, we get it done for paperwork completeness in case we have to have an argument with anyone about the dogs' coverage. Phillipa we get ours done at Hall, I can't recall how much but can PM you tonight if you like.

Yes please. I am really only interested in Parvo as one of my guys got Parvo as a 6 months old (and he was FULLY immunised). He is now 3 years and I am curious to see what his levels are now. Yarrowfell
Ok - just talked to the vet in Kambah: $83.15 for Distempter and Parvo $152.46 for DHP

Will be interesting Philippa - is that Magnus? I'm trying to find a local vet in Melbourne that will at least give the 3-yearly C3 instead of my vet who insists on C7! Yep - for Magnus My vet will do the C3 for 3 years - if fact that's what my others guys got a few months ago. From memory it was about $40 for the C3 (3 yearly). Will keep you posted on Magnus' results.
Yarrowfell
Just an update for those interested. I got Magnus' results back yesterday. The vet gave a quick run down of how to read the results: Levels of 20+ - Immunity excellent Level of 5-20 - Immunity OK Level of less that 5 - Low immunity, consider re-vaccinating. Magnus' Parvo immunity level was 80+ (they only test up to 80) His Distemper level was 5 Interesting results for a dog that was vaccinated about 5 months ago and had Parvo when he was 6 months old (he is now 3). Wow - interesting Distemper result. ;) You'd hope a dog that had recovered from Parvo would have high levels of immunity in their system. Good to know though. Good to know though. We weren't sure if his Parvo level would be really high (seeing he has already had it) or really low (hence why he caught it in the first place). Worried about the Distemper results - can you just vaccinate for that or do I have to do a C3 again? Now the idea is that his low immunity may be inherited. Tempted to do him parents now and see what they come back with.

The Spotted Devil
Interesting results Philippa - it's a very confusing area isn't it! Isn't there something about a dog's titre test being low just because they haven't come in contact with the disease itself? Makes sense in terms of the immune system - just not something I've read up on sufficiently. Pretty sure PF is right though...he'll have to have a C3. However, if at least it is every 3 years it's better than every year!
Ptolomy
I have had a similar distemper result + >80 for parvo. Unfortunately you cannot get a distemper only vaccine. After discussion with my vet, I have opted not to do a C3, but will re titre test in 2 years time. It is possible that because the dog has not come accross distemper, her immunity is there, but is low.
