Panosteitis... Any Advice?

Hi everyone

My 6 month old GSD has been limping in his left front leg for the past 2 months, the vet has taken xrays and was unable to find anything. Have also tried both steroid and non steroid medication with neither helping. He has now been referred to an orthopedic specialtist who wants to take another xray and alot of money from us

Kinda been narrowed down to panosteitis, elbow dysplasia or OCD. He comes from a good breeder and both parents where xrayed for dysplasia. I know we should be keeping exercies to a minimum but I have taken him out to my friends farm to visit my horse the last few weeks and he runs around a little and the limp seems to be getting better, or maybe im just getting use to it.

Oh he also seems to be very cow hocked, don't know if that influences anything.

If any one has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it. All he wants to do is run and chase the ball and I feel terrible that I can't play with him properly, he has so so much energy and is starting to become naughty.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies

I am in sydney (inner west)... happy to travel.

Mark Hocking at Gladesville Vet Hospital on Victoria Rd and there is All Natural Vet at Russell Lea,which is holistic.

I went through the same thing with my girl...one "specialist" told me it was ED, without any x rays, and even I could see it was in her shoulder, another vet suggested OCd and somebody else said poylathropy. None of these but she had very tight trigger points. She also has HD which can cause her back to tighten up.When she would get up she would limp for a little bit and then the trigger point would loosen up and she wasn't too bad. I found that anti-inflammatories and cartrophen made no difference.

Good luck. It can be a frustrating process but PM if you need any other details
