leopuppy04
Has anyone ever heard people tell others when their dog has a bout of the runs (I think) to give it PAL for a while?! Or was it the other way around (constipated) .... Lovely topic I know :p Wanted to ask people - have they tried it and does it work?! If so..... WHY does it work?!?!!? murphy001
its just like giving chum to some dogs and they end up with a chum bum lolololol, i guess it would be the change in diet an causes diarea or loose stools
persephone
A big meal of Canned food MAY help with a dog who is a bit constipated due to too much bone, not enough moisture, or lack of muscle tone.. I believe it helps because canned food is mostly water, and has ingredients which move quickly thru the digestive system... helping to liquefy the contents of the bowel, and relieve the constipation. Ci
I think its the other way around!!! If the dog is blocked!
leopuppy04
I think its the other way around!!!If the dog is blocked! That makes more sense then as I had NO idea how it would cause a dog to 'firm' up :p Mind you - I see stacks of dogs fed on PAL who really struggle when they go to the loo
poodlefan
Yep, you feed canned food to relieve constipation, not the runs. It contains a fair bit of water and indigestible fibre - moving stuff.
luvsdogs
On the overseas forums they use tinned pumpkin for the runs & constipation. Apparently works both ways.
Malamum
On the overseas forums they use tinned pumpkin for the runs & constipation. Apparently works both ways. It does seem to work. We don't have tinned pumpkin here but in the past I have steamed some fresh pumpkin and mashed it for the dogs.

Gayle.
Pumpkin and sweet potato both contain a fair bit of natural sugar and plenty of fibre which will get things moving.
