Blue Fox 001
My poor unfortunate grooming table that I bought off E-Bay just isn't cutting it (wobbly with anything over 2kg on it ) so I have been researching hydraulic tables and was wondering if anyone else is using these as tables and if so what weight and dimensions have you got? I would have liked a 500kg but they do not go high enough and it might have been over kill, so think I am going to look at a 350kg double scissor lift. This will be my only table so I need it to go low to raise big dogs into the bath and up high enough to do the SWF's. As the first table I bought is so unstable I am a little paranoid about this next one being very solid and able to lift GSD size dogs with it so I am second guessing the 350kg load weight. From what I can tell it's not really how much it can lift but the heavier the lift the more stable the table is going to be. I will have to put some sort of non-slip top on it as well as they all seem to have metal table tops so any suggestions for this would be good too. I am also looking at the Groomers Friend frame to mount onto this table so any info if you are using one of these tables and have a frame mounted to it would be appreciated. Gosh that was an epic post, sorry to be so long winded Any advice apprciated.
poodle3081
I have made a number of grooming tables using a scissor lift for a base. The main problem is their lifting height. If you are grooming small dogs it does not lift high enough for most people. You can build up the top to make it higher but this will affect how low it will go. Most of the tables are similar and it is the rating of the hydraulic ram that determines their capacity. You need to be aware that the majority are made in China and parts may not be available into the future. If you need any further info PM me. Blue Fox 001
Thanks for the input guys. I couldn't justify the price of an electric one becks, I am only grooming part time but they looked fantastic. Maybe one day when I can go full time Well I splashed out today and ordered a 350kg lift which goes plenty high enough 1300mm and still lowers to 355mm. It is an Australian company which have a 12 month warrantee, but you can bet that if it's gunna break down it'll be in month 13 I hope you were not going to tell me something bad poodle3081 cause I have ordered it now and it'll be here hopefully on Friday!! Found a wet area carpet, really low pile more like a hard felt really, which had rubber backing so we can glue it to the steel table to make it non slip. Will wait for it to turn up before I go ordering a frame just to see how I am going to fix it to the table and get the right measurements. Toooo exciting, can't wait to try it out with our GSD to see how it goes for the big guys.
Crisovar
I'd be going for pyramid matting or such from Clark Rubber instead of carpet, you need to be able to clean it properly.
becks
Just what I was going to say. You need to be able to easily clean the table - think how many different body fluids can end up on a table over the years of use!
Blue Fox 001
This stuff isn't really like carpet more like a vinyl tile I suppose, that's what I thought it was actually but it is a bit spongier. It will wipe over and nothing can get through, it's not porous as such.
becks
I would stick with a rubber top that can be easily wiped over.
