Scouty Posted February 9, 2009 Share Posted February 9, 2009 I have just been told Scout has Pancreatitis. The vet has called me on our way home from seeing him with the blood test results. We are to bring her back in tomorrow to put her on an IV drip. She will not eat, which is fine cos we are not to feed her. She drinks a little water and then throws it up. This evening, she will not have eaten for 24hrs. Is there anything i can do to speed up/help and ease her pain and recovery from home? Scouty Posted February 9, 2009 Author Share Posted February 9, 2009 He has sent us home and to come back tomorrow we are going to put her on a drip first thing tomorrow. He says she is not dehydrated or does not have a temp. I think thats why he has told me to go home and monitor her throughout the night. But i am unsure how long she will be put on a drip for. Rebanne Posted February 9, 2009 Share Posted February 9, 2009 friend of mine just went through this with her greyhound a couple of weeks ago. Tom was in from Tuesday until Sat. He was allowed nil by mouth for the 1st 48 hours. He wasn't allowed home until he could keep something down for 12 hours. I wouldn't be giving your dog anything by mouth overnight. Teebs Posted February 9, 2009 Share Posted February 9, 2009 My dog got it by raiding the bin and eating left over Mexican food he was a very sick dog, my vet didnt even wait for bloods or anything, took one look at him and ran him out the back on a drip - he was fine when i went to bed, the next day he wasnt moving when i got up :D 4 days on a drip, god i felt sorry for him This was a few years ago, he has had no lasting problems with it good luck Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's the fat that causes the problems, some dogs are more sensative to it then others. One of mine had it but was fine after treatment to stop the bloody diarrhoea and vomiting. Scouty Posted February 10, 2009 Author Share Posted February 10, 2009 What i am understanding is this; My dog is on a controlled diet. RC Maxi light. 150grams morning and night. She gets a bone once to twice a week. (Chicken carcass that is) On this occassion i gave her a pork bone, uncooked of course. Her body could not handle the fattiness of the bone since being on this maxi light for the last say 14months. We dropped her off at Dannys this morning and have no idea when we are to pick her up. I will call back later tonight to get some updates but i am preparing myself for her to be there, till at least Friday!!! :D All i am going to do now is wash all her bedding and collars and call every day! I don't have personal experience with pancreatitis, but my vet's nurse said that any form of pork can cause pancreatitis. If she hadn't mentioned it I wouldln't have had a clue. I am hoping there is no last effects after this little trip to the vet. I have actually bought some barf so i am going to do some homework. He has atopy and I have found this to be the best food for him.
