Riley James
OMG TLC how scary HUGS to you and to Tully xxx Maybe a trip to Chiro for her ??? Chatta We have the sort of run that I think you are talking about my husband made it I can take some pic tomorrow and post them if you like :D He said he got all the stuff from one steel metal corp in strong street. THe only part he said you might need someone to weld a bit on them is one the bottom of the poles so when you put them into the concrete they dont move they need like a rudder on a boat. IF you know anyone that welds otherwise anywhere that is a welding business will do this for you :D Our fences are 6 foot high with chain mesh fencing and a colorbond shed as a kennel. But like I said happy to take pics if you would like and if its what your after you are welcome to come out and have a look. It keeps our ridgeback boy who is a great jumper and our foxie cross who is a great escape artist in. Cheers Janet

moodychick
Ok i have a favour to ask. Is there anyone here with dogs or pups that we could come around and meet? Doesnt matter size or breed. We are going to try an experiment with our little bloke, to see what sort of dogs he connects with and that sort of thing, before we think about buying. We went over to Port Fairy this afternoon and went for a walk along the river. he stopped to pat every dog that went past lol. So he is very much a dog boy, now we just have to find the right breed for him, and we are hoping that something like this might help. There is n o hurry, and if you arent comfortable with it thats ok. We are just trying to figure out ways to find the right sort of dog for him. I am happy to meet at a park or something if that makes it easier Hi Moody Chick! I have a Boxer boy I would be happy for your little man to meet, he's a tad boisterous, but some vigorous exercise before they meet should minimise his excitement. Also have a friend with a 6 month old Boxer pup, so maybe a more suitable size and not quite so boisterous. We get together a few times a week to socialise the dogs (and ourselves!) You are more than welcome to join us at any stage. Boisterous is ok Chatabox! I don;t know what sort of interest he will take if any lol, which is why i want to find out :D Would it be ok if i bought my foxy x as well? Theres no hurry :D
tlc
MC, I'd be happy for you guys to meet my gang too, they love kids, especially Cooper and my girls are both Delta dogs and visit the local hospital. But I am sure you are looking to get a purebred, my lot are all cross breeds. Tully is asleep now resting peacfully, I really feel like some one was watching over us today! Hope she continues to be ok.
moodychick
Our scruffy is a x breed tlc. I dont mind cross breeds at all. We have looked at both lol. We were just thinking that if we went pure breed then we would know the temperaments of the parents etc etc. Just let me know when your up to it tlc, as i said there is no hurry, because being a stay at home mum, i can pretty much meet whenever is good for other people. Glad to hear that tully is feeling a little better! I too hope she continues to be ok, i don't even want to think about how i would feel if something happened to scruffy! The more the merrier. We usually organise our "play dates' around the weather, we try to get out most nice days, but stay in when the weather is inclement. We are in the midst of moving house this week, but once settled in the new house would be happy for you to come visit us at home, or meet you at the dog park at Harris Street Reserve. I'll just need to organise my friend to be there too if you'd like to meet the younger boxer. My pup wont be moving in for a week or so, although if she's arrived she'd be great for your little man to meet as well. I usually get on Facebook more often than here, so might be easier to let you know a date, time and place on there. Just let me know your Facebook profile name and I'll add you as a friend! moodychick
My God that's a demanding role for ANY dog! I believe the right dog would be one offering reliable companionship, and knowing a little about your sons needs, a calming, quiet demeanour. Buying a dog and expecting it to ensure your son doesn't climb fences or open gates??? Making sure he doesn't get out of the house and run down the road? Track him when he does??? Hmmmmmm. Helping ease or prevent a meltdown.... absolutely! Pets are great for this! My son has a favourite snake he gets out when he's feeling like this. When we see him about to 'loose it' we say "Go and get Mac out and sit on the couch".... works every time. Must say though.... regardless of special needs, parents need to stay "one step behind" their kids at the beach regardless of having a wonder-dog or not! Especially at your sons age. Please don't get me wrong... I'm NOT offering parenting advice here , just saying that I don't think it's reasonable what you are expecting from a dog. I have a particularly lovely dog here who has an incredible bond with my children and I trust her with them as much as a dog can be trusted, BUT I would never leave a child unattended in the yard and expect the dog to prevent the child escaping! Least of all 'track' him if he left the house. She may well do it, but that's NOT her job here and I certainly wouldn't expect it. Edited to say.... What are others thoughts??? Ok i have a favour to ask. Is there anyone here with dogs or pups that we could come around and meet? Doesnt matter size or breed. I will take some photo's for you tomorrow and post them up and if you like it come out and have a look we are not far out of town inbetween Warrnambool and Koroit :D. MC I would be happy for your boy to meet my two but I'm not sure how it would go as the foxie x isn't really interested in kids only balls the ridgie is a one family dog and no one else really, but happy to come along for a catchup anyway with or with out dogs. Our dogs now get heaps of exercise so I'm not too stressed if I dont bring them along :D they love their 7 acres to run in and they sure do make the most of it LOL. I wish some days i had room like that to let nathan run off some of his energy, and then scruffy wouldnt have to beg to escape from too much play hehehe. Its really just an experiment to see if he takes an interest in certain dogs, big or small and that sort of thing. We already know he loves scruffy, unfortunately scruffy doesnt love him back so much! Unless of course there are food scraps being handed through the fence..... jerojath
tlc that must have been damn scary! The exact same thing happened to a Vizsla of mine about 20 years ago. And as with Tully, the Vet was unable to say exactly what happened, except to say it may have been a cramp or a pinched nerve etc. Suffice to say, it never happened again to Geordie or any Vizsla I've had since. Sure puts the wind up ya though!
mawson
Hi all, I know.. I know... I ahven't been in here much again lately but nice to see some action happening in here Welcome Moody and yes, scruffy is a very cute fella! I'm going to put my two cents in and say that although it is great that you are considering a pure bred dog for Nathan so that you can see the temperaments of the parents etc. I work at the RSPCA and aften have dogs/puppies in that are assessed and I would deem suitable for Nathan. Just a thought anyway... at the shelter you are able to come in a meet the dog of interest as many times as you need to see if s/he is suitable or not and the staff will help you to find the right dog within the breed you are after. Of course, with the breeds you are initially looking at, we don't get many, if any, in. But just thought I'd let you know that the option is there and I would be more than happy to help you find a suitable dog for your family from the ones that we have currently for adoption or will have in the future. I am more than happy to volunteer Mawson for Nathan to meet, he is a therapy dog at the hospital and adores kids... so I reckon its sounding like we need to organise a play date to meet Moody and to let Nathan meet all of our babies!! There will certainly be all shapes and sizes there!!! JJ, Giorgio put the Shan's Van on when I was away at sea last time, I didn't like it much initially but it's kind of grown on me!! I still haven't got in touch with the van mob yet to get my whales put on the side, but I will soon so it might look different next time you see it!! Have you got yours done yet? Hope to see you all soon

Hope to see you all soon Hi Mawson, nice to meet you. We have been looking at the RSPCA for a while now, but it seems to be all kelpies etc there. Have been in a couple of times I keep an eye on the website for Warrnambool and Portland, but nothing as yet! We did actually want an RSPCA pup to begin with, but when we were unable to find one we started looking at different options. So if there is a small dog that comes in.....we would love to take a look at him or her! We just want a small dog, to be with Nathan, and one that gets along with Scruffy. Small dogs are easier to take when we go away on holidays etc lol. If i had my way, honestly, i would be getting a Rotti! But hubby keeps telling me no, it has to be a small dog, and then later on down the track i can get my rotti.......sigh......the joys of young kids! Just as my daughter is now old enough to handle a bigger dog, Nathan comes along and changes the plans lol.

tlc
Hey TLC, Sorry to hear about what happened to Tully that would be horrible... Hope she rest up, so we can all meet for a play date.... It was awful Tanya, and amazingly today she is just perfect like nothing has happened but I will still keep a close eye on her fir a few days. Hopefully the weather will be better soon so we can all get out. tlc that must have been damn scary! Put the wind up me is an understatement! I feel like I've been hit by a bus today, running fast on the concrete I can tell you not a good look but I just went into overdrive, I didn't panic or lose my cool even soon as I got to her I had the phone and was ringing the vet, thank god I had the phone with me as where we were I sometimes leave it in the car. I'd just taken a short video of the dogs playing just before it happened. What was your boy doing when it happened to him? I'm thinking it was a nerve thing landing wrong and pinched something, it had to be that to be contorted like she was and have nothing broken just nothing short of amazing! Another thing that amazed me was the other dogs, they all came running to see what was wrong, they all seemed very concerned and were all crying in the back of the car on the way to the vet, Sean took them home while I was in the vet and when we got home boy were they glad to see she was ok. I sometimes think we underestimate the bond they have with each other. Someone told me that other dogs will go into attack mode if there is a dog injured? How true is this? Mine only showed concern and wonderment at what was going on. Yes Happy Birthday CB, I just noticed on facey that your birthday was today, hope you have a good one!
