Tenties
Hey Tez, i just got back from a nice little drive to Camperdown, its beautiful and sunny in fact i think its a bit warm today but that may be just me ( if you know what i mean ) I took little Pip, Prim and zippy with me and they shared some lunch of course, then i went to the Bargain Basement store which i used to love but its not so much a Bargain Basement anymore ?, still a few things there that caught my eye though and i may end up back there to get My Fur Kids put on a sing song out in the car , thats the blackmail part of things but i told the Lady that was serving they were my dogs and what they were doing it for and she just laughed and said it was okay.... as the saying goes, you can dress em up but you cant take em anywhere lol
Tenties
Thats a given with my lot, I'd prefer to have them safe and sound in the car while I stuff my face, that way I don't have to worry about what they are doing, you know how much of an explorer Cooper is and always has a couple of his off siders tagging along!! Sounds like the size of your block is awesome, plenty of room for the fur kids to run around, your lot will love it!! Mine will be locked up as well, its more to do with safety and being able to relax for 5 minutes without having to check on dogs, im looking for some "me " time with this BBQ dogs have their time every morning and night and i have had dogs for more years than i want to know the fences here are not real high either they are the same height as that green plastic trellis stuff you have at Bunnings, so i dont leave the dogs to run around alone just in case one decides to become a high jumper and on this road they wouldnt last 2 seconds
tlc
I know what you mean about the fences and the road. OH's sister lives on the highway in Garvoc and I am paranoid when we are out there that one of the dogs will get on the road, so I watch them like hawks :D We are usually out the back yard so away from the highway and they usually keep me in eye shot, but it would only take a minute for my captain cook to spy something across the road with his eagle eye :p Thier house is right on the highway, so I'm always very wary!! tez
Hey Tenties....you must have been just around the corner from me having a nice lunch while I was head down, bum up at work! A friend of mine from Colac calls Camperdown 'Crappytown" which I think is a little unfair!!!! The bargain basement shop is good for dog toys but I don't get much else there. I have found though that the dog toys from there and IGA last the longest with Jane and she loves em! Got her a few rope toys from the 'basement'. $2.00 each and they are great. Sadly they are probably made by some poor little kid in china!

J...
A friend of mine from Colac calls Camperdown 'Crappytown" which I think is a little unfair!!!! Pot calling the kettle black?? Colac gets Boganville around here, I lived there for 9 months or something back in 2000 - I hated it. Camperdown is one of my favourite places to live and that's saying something for someone who's moved as much as I have. On a far more serious note.... :D A family friend has an 18 mo registered Rottie bitch who is looking for a new home due to some very unfortunate circumstances. I've asked them to contact the breeder first obviously but not sure whether that will get her anywhere. I'm told she's a lovely dog, friendly but very full on with next to no training - She doesn't get out of her yard too often so I can only imagine what trouble she's getting into. I have sighted her papers, she is definitely registered, apparently working line. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to find her a new home, I have emailed Rottie Rescue already and have posted in the Rottie thread. Given she's not a pound dog or in foster care then I won't post her in the rescue thread. She'll take some work but sounds like she'll be worth it. jerojath
Jess I'm afraid I can't be of much assistance, but can say one needs to be very careful taking on a Rottie from "working lines". A big dog with such high drive is not for the inexperienced dog owner, especially when the dogs start has apparently lacked training and discipline etc. I would think the Rottweiler Club may be the best place to seek help should the breeder not be supportive. ETA - I LOVE Camperdown. Could quite happily live there..... Edited May 11, 2010 by jerojath

J...
Thanks JJ - the Rottie Club is a great idea. And yes, she will need to go to someone with experience. I hope her breeder will step in as it will prevent a lot of heartache at a time when there is already way too much.

J...
Thanks T & T Awesome news - the breeder has agreed to take her back and rehome her from there. :D Thank dog for ethical and responsible breeders - a huge thumbs up to you!! I've said to Mum I can take her to Melbourne to get her "home", but I'm not sure if my crate is going to be big enough (36"). Does anyone happen to have a metal crate I could borrow if I need it? Work turns a blind eye to having my dogs in the wagon because they don't do any damage but they may have a big issue if M decides to start on the interior of a 6 month old car. ;) To change the subject - Has anyone been in Petstock lately - looks like they are trying to start a p*ssing match with your brother's business JJ! I would say 2/3 of that middle area has been taken up by aquarium supplies now Kind of crazy given there is now a dedicated aquarium plus PGD have a fairly big set up as well. They've lost me, I've found them not particularly friendly in the past and today was no exception. Their range for dogs and cats is now very ordinary I'll go to Colac if I need cat food and to Best Friend's if I need more than that.
Guest Pandii
Jess I have a rotti size crate, but as all my suggestions to help have been shot down or ignored, I doubt anyone would want to borrow my crate Such as shame as I am going to Melbourne anyone on a trip to do with Rottweilers anyway
Riley James
Hi Jess, That is so wonderful that the breeder is going to rehome the dog says a lots for responsible breeders YAY. I also have a large metal crate (it even has a waterproof cover which is good to keep crate dark there for dog quiet) here that you are welcome to borrow for a couple of days my guys sometimes use it as there kennel but LOL they do have a few kennels to pick from they like to try them all out ;) It is a XX large I think well it fits my Ridgeback and mini mutt both comfortably and I also have a XX large soft crate here that so far has never been used that you are welcome to borrow also. Petstock are doing a huge reno aren't they lol funny what a bit of competiton can do to a bussiness now if some of them just picked up some happy pleasant pills we would all be happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will be looking into one of those dog containment systems if anyone has used one before I would appreciate their feedback???????????????????????????? As we will be on 7 acres (OOPS FORGOT TO SAY WE SOLD THE HOUSE AND BOUGHT THE LAND :D :D ) we want to be able to confine the dogs to a smaller area rather than let them have free run so to speak. They wont be left out even with a containment system in place if we are not there or even out in the yard so really its just a safe guard for us. Ok best go get the child into bed Cheers Janet
jerojath
Jess - great news regarding the Rottie. Good to hear that the breeder has accepted responsibility for their own. It doesn't always happen. I don't go to Pet Stock - mainly because they are so rude! I did go in the other day because I needed some live food for my frogs and my brother had run out. Yes they have all of a sudden decided to do something with their dismal aquarium section. It started as soon as my brother opened his shop. Luckily they are not much competition for him. As he is a dedicated aquarium he is able to undercut their prices everytime. They do stock some 'el cheapo crap though, that Tristan wont even stock. He is doing very well there actually - much better than predicted! Jess - you are very welcome to borrow my dog trailer to get her to Melbourne. Plenty big enough for a Rottie and nothing for her to damage etc.... Edited to add - I am using the trailer on Saturday (can't be avoided I'm afraid) but could drop it off at your place after that. Let me know..... Edited May 13, 2010 by jerojath
