Ok so I'm in the dark, derrrrr I thought MWF were the same as a salamander, please explain difference? I'd google but would prefer to hear from the expert. ;)

A Salamander, or at least this species, IS a MWF,

It's simply a MWF which "morphed" into a Salamander..... an extremely rare ocurrence!

No-one knows why one will morph, for apparently no reason, and most 'experts' say (which I'm not!) that approximately ONE Axolotl in a million will morph into a Salamander.

Hey JJ, had a look through your store yesterday... Was going to say Hi but you were busy... It's amazing, that snake in the large enclosure is big, cute and scary at the same time... lol

Sorry! I didn't even see you... :( . I have been so busy I even had Jess in helping clean cages out, the last couple of days!

There are days I don't stop talking to people and things just don't get done.

Especially in the hollidays.... we call it the 'Budget Zoo'.... the Zoo for tight-arses

Hey Mick,

I found what i was looking for today at the petshop (Power Lead with the ceramic light fitting).

Just a suggestion maybe get a few into your shop as they were well priced at $25.99 Reptapets Australia called a 'Repta lead edison fitting'. They can take up to 250 watts, have the nice on/off switch on the lead and it's all pre wired ready to use.

Ideal for reptiles and chook brooders. www.reptapets.com.au

Cav I don't stock anything from Reptapets due to unreliability, and in the case of electrical items, fire-risk.

I have sourced some quality fittings, capable of higher wattage much more safely.

Unfortunately there have been heaps of issues with the Reptapets items.... many Reptile Specialists stores are changing brands.

Just waiting on mine to arrive from the US. :)

Hi all. New to the forum, but have been reading for a while.

I am in West Warrnambool. Married with 2 kids, one cat, one dog, 3 rats, and lots of tropical fish :D

THought i would introduce myself and say hi, and also state that we are looking to buy a dog in the area.

After reading through leos story, we have pretty much decided pure bred!

We are looking for a small dog, Foxy, Tenterfield, Jack Russell, Miniature Pinscher. Husband said he would prefer a male, but really it doesnt matter, as S/he will be desexed!

The reason we are after a small dog, is that we have a 3 year old son who is currently undergoing assessment for Autism Spectrum. He is a lovely boy, but very very active, and sometimes very loud! So we are hoping a pup may grow up with him and become used to being around him, and also help him a little. Our other dog is a foxy x Maltese, and is 10 years old in about a month. Unfortunately Scruffy doesnt have the energy or patience for our little boy, and so spends most of his time in the dining room with me, unless our little bloke is in bed.

So we want a little dog that can be loved and carried around by a 3 year old. I am a stay at home mum, so there is someone home most of the time, and the dining room is fenced off from the lounge to give our dog his own space away from the 3 year old lol.

Just wondering if any of you may know of any breeders around the area?

We want to match our son with the right dog, not just take a dog and hope for the best.

There is no huge hurry, but would like a pup soonish if possible.

Hi, moodychick and :welcome:

Great to see you have put some thought into the dog you decide to buy and have opted for a pure-bred dog.

Just make sure you buy from a REGISTERED and responsible breeder.

I think the first thing you need to do is decide on a breed, and THEN find a breeder in this area.

A GOOD breeder will be able to match the right pup to your (and your sons) needs.

Feel free to ask any questions in here, or elsewhere within these forums. :)

Thank you JeroJath, love your new store by the way!

We know the breeds we are interested in, however it is a matter of finding a breeder who is close to us.

Hubby doesn't want to spend too much, and i made a few inquiries on Min Pins, only to find out they were $900 and upwards, and hubby just laughed. But after reading Leo's story, i think we have both decided that purebred is worth the cost.

I think a terrier breed will be the best for us. Which is why we are looking at the JR, Mini Foxy, Foxy and Tenterfield. Hubby did say that we may end up having to travel to Melbourne or Adelaide to find a pup, but i was hoping that someone local may be able to recommend someone to us.

We don't want to waste hours driving all over the state looking at all different dogs, only to find that none of them will suit our situation, if that makes sense without sounding stupid.

'Tenties' here breeds Tenterfields.... I'm sure she'll pop in soon enough. :)

Welcome Moodychic, we will have to meet up for a fur play date once this weather fines up..

Thanks Tim & Tanya, that would be great to meet some people in the area. I have lived here for about 8 years now and still don't know many people, but then again im not really a "people person" most days lol.

However I am sure scruffy would love having a playdate :D

Hi Moodychick and Welcome, Nice to have someone new blood in here!

Hopefully Tenties will be along shortly with some helpful advice re Tenterfields.

Hi TLC, and thanks :D

Have been researching breeds for a few weeks now. Its amazing how many people in your life want a say on what sort of dog you should buy :S lol

So some advice on one of them would be greatly appreciated :D I shall wait for Tenties to come online, I am online most days anyway :)
