dezzyno.1
Hi tlc...well we have just come back from having our induction to the nursing home where we will be attending.....I think we are going to get lost as the building is huge....everybody loved Dezzy and he performed some tricks for them.....we had a good chat to a lady who doesn't usually say two words.....we are going in once a week and the other girl there will go in once a week on a different day until she goes into a classroom...the dementia ward was good and they absolutely loved Dezzy but I was told everything we spoke about we will probably have to go over again...lol...anyway Dezzy is buggered and asleep on the couch but he has to go again as we have to demonstrate to some people that if they are consistent with their training they can get to Dezzy's level...lol.....he will really sleep well tonight.....will have to catch up some time Cheers Lisa and Dezzy

tlc
Hi Lisa, that's fantastic, so glad Dezzy wooed them with his charms, did you get a pic of him with his bandana on? I'd love to see him! Sounds like you two will definatley be a hit with the residents at your facility. We are waiting for the person who is in charge at the hospital to come back from holidays and hopefully we can get the ball rolling for us. Hope you can keep us updated on your visits. Hey Tez, how has your day been, hope you have had a nice day and got some nice prezzys! Hey Jj, just wondered with you being a breeder and all plus being knowledgable about dogs In general at what age would you consider a desexed female dog to be fully mature? jerojath
tlc... how long is a piece of string? lol Soooooooo many variables to consider, If it were a vizsla I would say 24 months. Approx.
tez
Hello all! Thanks very much for the birthday wishes! Got a lovely prezzie from work. A gift voucher for the local vets...ahh they know me too well! JJ...hope the snakes are all comfy under their new lights. Bet the electrician had a story to tell the family that night!!! Well done Dezzy on making some sad and depressed people very happy today! Amazing how an animal can reach out and touch some people. Tlc, I hope you get to share Tully and Lacey with some patients soon!
tlc
Ok yes I had thought about two years. My girls have just decided to have themselves a little fight tonight and it was definatley not a play fight. They were both on the bed (they had both just finished a treat.) and they way I seen it was Tully lunged at Lacy, I think she was just going to do her snip snap thing she does but Lacy was obviously caught off guard and they just went at it. Bloody little ferrels. They are both 3 Lacy is nearly 4 and they have never had a fight ever. Sean and myself were both right there so they were separated very quickly but not before Sean got his hand in the middle of it. He's not sure if it is was a bite or a scratch. I said well that's what you get if you get in the middle of two bitches fighting no seriously I should'nt laugh, I only just made a comment today in another thread about how well mine get on as a pack, maybe I spoke too soon, touch wood it was a one of. Much earlier on (over a year ago) I had to pull Lacy off Coop a couple of times but those times it was over food and they seem to be past that now. Ah the joys of having dogs!! Any thoughts? dezzyno.1
tlc....i hope you get to the hospital soon....I will get a pic of Dezzy with his bandanna on but when the weather clears up a bit....too stormy at the moment.....he has big shoes to fill as the residents love the other girls dog as she has been going there for about 3 years but only a couple said they will miss her dog so hopefully Dezzy will make a big impact with them all.....they were all impressed with his tricks so that is a good start....can't wait for you to post here that you have got into the hospital....I did have a couple of people say they were scared of Dezzy because he was big but he soon won them over...lol...and thanks everyone for the congrats I am soooo proud of Dezzy...he was a real gentle giant with them all...by the way Dog News Australia is doing a story on him....don't know if it is in the next addition on the 9th of October or the next month
tlc
Wow that's fantastic, let us know which issue it's in, I would love to get it. He is a great ambassador for his breed when there is always so much bad publicity surrounding them. 3 years is a long time for the other girl to be visiting but I'm sure Dezzy will woo the residents in no time. Shannon finds the same thing with visiting with Mawson and occasionally people are afraid of him, he is big and black but the biggest softie ever! We are hoping to get the local paper to do a human interest story on our W'bool delta dogs to raise a bit of interest with the hospitals and nursing homes. dezzyno.1
that sounds fantastic....it is great when the local papers can do a story....we also are just waiting for Dezzy to do a few visits and then the local paper will probably do a story on Dezzy as well
jerojath
tlc I really wouldn't be too concerned about your girls. I certainly wouldn't be taking any 'action' besides being a little more aware when there are treats involved. I have an ever-changing number of vizslas here, sometimes my own, sometimes rescues or re-homes, dogs and bitches, desexed and entire. (Would hate for council to inspect me at the moment!) There are times we have had the odd 'scrap' as you described and I don't let it worry me. Some people would disagree with my approach though. I figure it is best to let them sort it out now. If you break them up every time and keep them seperated at such times they never get themselves sorted out. I have never had blood drawn between them EVER. For me, I find that one or two of these scraps is all I will EVER get between two individuals. Many pups I have bred have gone to homes with existing dogs, and it's the same thing there too... when the dog gets a little older and cocky and 'tries it on' with the existing dogs, you are bound to see some scrapping, but again, it only ever seems to happen once or twice. While your girls and my vizslas are very different dogs, I really think this would aply, as your dogs have equally (well almost! :D ) great temperaments as the vizslas. tlc
Well thanks for that, generally they love each other to bits but I really do think the food aspect did come into play this time and also previously between Coop and Lacy. I guess they can't be perfect all the time :D but I do pride myself on them being a nice relaxed and happily little family in their own right. It does put you on edge when it happens, I wasn't game to let them keep going and felt I needed to intervene. I made them both get on the floor for some time out and after a time invited them back on the bed lacy first then Tully and they are now both sleeping soundly next to each other. The couple of times it happened with Cooper and Lacy they basically got over it as soon as it was over althoughoor Cooper is always wary of Lacy at meal times, he won't eat near her at all unless I'm supervising and when they have bones outside he takes his as far away from her as possible he's got her figured out that's for sure! I guess it can't be smooth sailing all the time especially when you deal in numbers of dogs.
tlc
Thinking about this now I'm wondering if a dog is really hungry would they be more likely to be agro with another dog where food is involved. It's just that the other day Tully had a go at Bronson and that was over food too, it was over before it began and I was right there at the time but now I'm wondering if maybe she needs extra food as she always seems hungry and desperate for food? She could afford to put on a little weight so maybe I'll up her daily intake. I have a vet app in the morning so maybe I'll see what he thinks about her weight and upping her tucker. I think she is the sort of dog that can eat what she likes and stay the same, wish I could say the same about her owner! :D
jerojath
How'd you get on at the Vet today tlc? Just a check-up? Hope all's well.
tlc
Thanks for thinking of us JJ, all good at the vets, I was a proud doggy mumma when the vet said Tully is a vets dream, she sat nicely and shook hands with the vet so cute, full body check, vaccs, ears, feet she just lapped it all up and the vet commented on how calm she was and how exceptionally lovely her coat was! I told her about her recent escapades and the vet said could it be a hierachy thing, I said I didn't think so due to thier age and I would have thought that they had it all sorted by now. She said she is in peak condition weight wise and wasn't so sure about me upping her food intake. I am going to do for a couple of weeks and see how she goes. I think she is the sort of dog that could eat what she likes and not put on weight! Anyway enough bragging from me. Gee the weathers a bit blowy out there today and we had some rain during the night, just when you think summer is nearly hear it does an about face!
