tlc
It's just she gets upset if she has an accident and she's a bit funny about asking to go out during the night, almost like she knows she's waking me up to go. ;) I've been toileting her regularly and before anything that causes her to get excited and that's definitely working but it also means I don't know if she's getting better or not. Hi Jess, I just wanted to tell you a little trick I did with one of my girls, totally different situation, but the solution may work for you too?? Tully was toilet trained really early but she would go to the door and just sit there with out making a sound and just wait for me to come to let her out, now this was fine during the day when I was around to see her, open the door and out she goes. BUT at night she did the same thing which posed a problem if I was fast asleep, (the others woke me to go by either barking or nudging the side of the bed.) But Tully just went to the door and sat and If I didn't come to let her out there would be a puddle in the morning. So I got a bell and hung in on the door and for the next few times she needed to go out when she sat at the door I would tap her foot on bell and then let her strait outside to do her business. My OH said oh that is never going to work but by the very next night she was ringing the bell by herself, we were both shocked that she caught on so quick but it works so well now 2 of them use the bell at night to let us know if they want to go out which is not often but it works so well. Lacy doesn't use the bell but just stands next to the bed and barks at me to wake up if she needs to go and Bronson is in his crate so if he needs to go he just gives a little cry but he has a steel bladder and never wants to go out during the night, he is too busy sleeping Tully also rings the bell to let us know the cat wants to come in!! Anyway after that long winded story just thought it might work for your girl. Tez, a big from me too!! Tenties any news yet on your house?? J...
Mmm interesting... that might be worth a go. She's been having a few toilet issues since I got back from NZ, seems with both dogs sleeping outside for the week that she's gotten into the habit of pooing at about 3 am in the morning. So I went back to crating her for a fortnight, got that sorted out and then the suspected UTI has showed up. So now of course with letting her out once or twice a night for a piddle is she's now got back into the habit of pooing then as well. She's such a bloody attention seeker is that it is really hard to tell if she wants attention or to go out to the toilet. The bell would give her a job to do in relation to toileting which could work. Where did you get the bells from? I'm thinking I'd need 3 - one on the front door, one on the B/R door and one on the kitchen door as these can all be shut at one time or another. Have you mounted them beside each door or just tied them to the door handle on a long piece of string so they can reach it? If I didn't have an inside only cat I'd just install a dog door and fix all issues with one hit, but Sasha is no slouch in the brain department and would end up hanging around the dog door in the hope of dodging past one of the dogs for a roll in the dirt. Never mind she has a cat cage that would put many to shame -spoilt bloody animals!

Hi Jess, The bell I use is a miniture cow bell, so it has a ring loud enough for me to wake up but not loud enough that it is annoying. The bell came as a present from my SIL so I dont know where it came from. But really you can use any old bell I would think. I have it hanging on the front door with a piece of wool. I only have it on the front door as nights are really the only time it is needed as during the day, if Im home and they are inside they just go to the door if they wanna go out. Maybe with Zee try one bell for a start on a door she uses mostly, then if it works add the other two, poosibly having three to begin with may confuse?? I know a few others that have also used the bell with great success. we thought Bronson (the youngest) would play with it but he just watched Tully and he knows if he wants to go he just rings it. I have it hanging at nose level. I taught Tully to ring it with her foot but she uses her nose and the others do as well. You just have to get them to make it ring and you are there. With Tully I waited till I knew she would be due for a wee and then Id put it into pracitce so she got the bell = wee anyway good luck I hope it works for you and Zee gets back into her routine soon!! Cavalblaze
Oh bugger, sorry to hear that! Hope you get things sorted soon!! 8 counts of Parvo reported in Warrnambool on 'disease watchdog'. Only the locations come up so we can't clarify if this is part of the pound or clinic, could be one litter or eight separate accounts. :D

It's a real concern as I've got 4 week old babies here! It's not even safe taking them to the clinic for any work when we can't find out 'where' exactly! Hope everyone's dogs are vaccinated and we all take precautions. I avoid ANYWHERE where dogs congregate in numbers - I think an out-of-town beach is the safest option.... I was hoping to take Lele in to Wollaston Clinic at the end of the month for a pregnancy ultrasound. Debating if it's a good idea. Guess I can ring up and ask if there has been any cases presented to that clinic.

Guess I can ring up and ask if there has been any cases presented to that clinic. I have been in there today and they tell me they have not seen it recently. Also, they are very safe at that clinic and cross-contamination on premise is highly unlikely (only clinic here I would EVER use!). However, if you don't really need to U/S, I would leave it go if you have any concerns.
tlc
I go to that same clinic and have always found them to be really good and they would definatley say if they have had a case of Parvo in. They have couple of new vets at the moment too. How much at risk are dogs that are vaccinated? If they came into contact with it??

Vets will tell you that vaccinated dogs are completely protected against Parvo, yet there are many recorded cases of vaccinated dogs contracting the virus, albeit on a lesser scale. If you are like me and don't like annual vaccinations, then you need to have a titre test done by your Vet to ensure there are sufficient antibodies present within the system. If you DO vaccinate annually, there is not TOO much to worry about, except that a Vaccinated dog can transmit Parvovirus to unvaccinated dogs, as can any other contact, such as the bottom of your shoes! J...
JJ does Wollaston do your titre testing? I rang one clinic down there and spoke to a senior vet who was unbelievably rude when I asked about titre testing. I ended up getting Darcy done here but haven't had Zee done yet, was planning on waiting til she was due for her 12 month booster and getting her tested then. Only place I take my dogs down there lately is the beach, will check with the vets if there has been any cases here.

Jess - I don't know that they do at Wollaston as I haven't had titre tests done since moving back to these parts. I vaccinate bi-annually so have never seen much benefit in the tests. Thanks - I won't be vaccinating Darcy again unless she needs it and the titre result is the only way I'll know. Zee will get her 12 month booster and I'll put her on the same regime. Plus I need to have either an up to date vacc. card or a titre test result in order to remain a member at either dog club.
