Hey Tenties, who are you calling a trespasser? :p It's not that long ago that you lived just down the road from me :(

Hi tlc - I come in peace!

I live in Winchelsea, between Geelong and Colac. I haven't lived in W'bool for about 30 years now, but am still a W'bool girl at heart. :)

Well welcome GSD's, Im glad you come in peace!!

Its been a lovely day today, RJ and I went to the dog park and had a lovely walk, the doggies had a great time.

Does anyone remember the poor doggy in the standard a month or so back that was a horrible matted mess, he was at the rspca, not sure if he was seized, surrendered or found. But he had matts down to his skin and grass seeds embedded and had been badly neglected.

Well Im glad to report he has a nice new family to love him now, A older couple that have recently lost both thier old dogs in the last 6 months His name is George and Me and the gang met him at the park the other day with his new owner, he was quite around my guys but happy enough to say hello as his owner stopped to tell me all about him. He had only had him for 2 days and he was running along off lead and totally in awe of his new owner, which was so good to see!! A terribly story with a happy ending!! Just thought I'd share.

tez can I ask a question? Did the vets happen to suggest what in the lake might've caused Jane's eye infection?

Zee had an accident in the car again tonight - looks like her urinary infection might be back  She's already had 2 lots of A/Bs and that finally appeared to clear it up back in late Feb. The original stick test showed a minor reaction to the presence of white blood cells and after she needed the second dose I asked them to do cultues which came up clear (not uncommon when she'd already had a course of A/Bs).

I'm wondering if it's a recurrence of the original infection or something to do with the lake. Should've kept her on the Vitamin C and Cranberry tablets

Sorry Jess that Zee is unwell.

Can't give you too much info about the lake either. Jane's eye were fine for quite a few days after the lake but went from a little bit of yellow muck in the corner of her eye one day to sore red swollen eye the next morning...one eye worse than the other.

The vets thought it might be a grass seed but as the other eye was involved as well ( but much less so) they started asking questions as to where she had been. When the lake was mentioned, they concluded that she got it from there. Mind you, she also stuck her nose into a few soft mushy cow pats while we were there as well so who knows!

I'm sure if you rang them they would give you the info about the lake...if so...please pass it on!

BTW Jane's eye cleared up really well and really quickly with the meds. The next day they looked back to normal.

I hope Zee's UTI clears up soon. Is her behaviour affected by the infection? I know little kids with UTI's can become little brats behaviour wise due to the bladder infection and was wondering wether dogs are affected like that as well!

Thanks tez - that's interesting. My guys had a brief swim up there after a run Monday so it's quick but not impossible, if that's what it is.

I spoke to John briefly today about a course of action for her, I didn't mention the lake as it was a quick chat and I wasn't in a great signal area at the time.

She's not ill at all, no change in behaviour - she just piddles in places she wouldn't usually piddle in when she's excited about something. You would never know otherwise. She's back on her cranberry and vitamin C tablets as well and I'll keep her on the cranberry tablets for the long term this time.

Has Jane's eye's cleared up okay now? Congrats on the new addition BTW ;)

Poor Zee...Don't know about dogs but some people have a hard time with UTIs. It can take months to clear up and then they always seem to be susceptable. Still the cranberry tablets should help.

Jane's eyes are back to normal and shes all good! Just want her to have her new little mate home so she can start bonding (me too!!!) but we need to have a property check done first and I'm still waiting to hear when.

He's a cute little guy and looking at him makes me smile. Never thought I would have a whippet but he ticked all the boxes personality wise and he is a good age for Jane and hey...if he gets sick of her pestering him, he can just run away! NO Chance of Jane catching him ;)

I hope the cranberry tablets are helping her tez - still haven't heard from the vet, other than to say that the stick test results were negative and that they weren't sure if the lab would be willing to read the culture plate early or have to wait until Monday.

I wasn't willing to put her on A/Bs again either until we knew what it was but to make her wait a week without any treatment is not nice. I've added some aloe vera juice to her diet as well, willing to give anything a go if it could help her. Poor little bugger. :)

Edited by Jess.

Awww thanks tez :)

She's completely fine in herself, as full on as ever, she's currently tearing the stuffing out of a $2 toy and adding to her collection of denuded squeakies :)

It's just she gets upset if she has an accident and she's a bit funny about asking to go out during the night, almost like she knows she's waking me up to go. I've been toileting her regularly and before anything that causes her to get excited and that's definitely working but it also means I don't know if she's getting better or not.

No word from the vets, the culture will hopefully show whatever the issue is - that way we can treat this thing for her. Will definitely let you know if it's potentially lake related.

When does the new addition arrive? Bet you're excited!! :)

Good luck with the results Jess!

Unfortunately we won't be going ahead with the adoption for personal reasons which is a shame as he is a lovely dog. One day we will have a friend for us and Jane but not just yet.
