I think it was just standard mince Pandii - heard the ad on the radio. Be worth giving them a call though just in case. Where's our nice sunny beach weather gone - would be nice to get some sunshine rather than just grey... I went in to Meat Barn today for my regular 25kg of Chicken Necks! jerojath Posted December 19, 2009 Author Share Posted December 19, 2009 The mince is just standard, i just got it for the dogs they have it as part of thier diet, so it will keep me going for a while, dont see standard mince much under $5 a kg these days so I stocked up. Not the chicken frames though, don't mind giving my two the occasional feed but Darcy puts on weight too easily on frames. No good for a sporting dog. Every time I have given CJ frames about 4 or 5 hours later he vomits up the vertebre (sp) in a tiny neat little pile, it is so bizzare but apparently quite common so i've heard!! Yes I also think the mince was particularly fatty compared to thier normal standard mince so possibly the reason for the price?? I have to Ration my two tubbys and give extra to my two sportys when it comes to mince that is particularly fatty, but it is not a huge part of thier diet. One of the butchers used to do them cheap a long time ago but I cant find any. La Famiglia have just opened a second store at Gateway if that's easier for you. Meat Barn do sell split marrow bones but they are the most expensive in town, I think! Not DIRT cheap though...I think they are $7 for a bag of 5 ears, but they are a good size. Yep thats where I usually go if I need a bag. I had a friend from Tassie sent me some over from thier local abs and they were great and cheap as, I think she only paid about 50 cents each for them. But then you have to take into consideration the postage. The price of pigs ears sucks! I used to get them for free from the KR/Castlemaine pig processing plant when I lived out that way. Are they beef or lamb livers? And are they frozen first? Pigs ears are the biggest rip off these days. Every now and then Petstock Geelong has them 10 for $12, and I picked some up from Best Friends at Geelong 10 for $12.90 - that's as a member! WDTS used to have them for $1 each but I bought some at their last trial - I think they were $1.20 or $1.50 but they were paper thin. I read on here ages ago that pigs ears are all taken up with Woolworths and Coles getting into the pet market. Re: La Famiglia in the Gateway - thanks JJ I'd wondered if they had them out there as well, much easier to fly in and grab my weekly supply there than fight with you Warrnamboolians for a car park And thanks for the tip on meatbarn, I rarely feed marrow bones these days and especially not cut in half given Darcy's last effort - bloody piglet she is. Tlc, the pics of Tully with your MIL are beautiful, you are getting closer to Delta all the time!!! And happy birthday to Lacy again, hope she had a good day! JJ, good to hear that all your pups went to good homes, must be tear jerking though... one thing I would like to say without any offence intended is when posting your opinion about RSPCA, please consider the organisation's policies and the staff/vols that work at the shelters as two separate things. A lot of people don't agree with some of the policies of the RSPCA and I can only imagine that you were referring to the jumps racing maybe? I don't know what other campaigns they have been running lately?? But the people that work inside the shelters as staff, vols and vets etc. all work very hard to rehome as many unwanted animals as possible. And please think of them/us at this time of year when many people will purchase pets, mainly dogs, that they will no longer want in 6 weeks time when the kids go back to school and will readily dump them on the local shelter to deal with, while they get on with their lives. You also need to understand that they do not readily rehome DA dgs but they can slip through the cracks... look at Migaloo, she was very fearful when we got her and showed no sign of being aggresive with another dog at the shelter until we got out and about with her and... well, you've seen what she is like. I'm just glad that I ended up with her and not someone else. I hate to say it, especially to Tez, but the chance of Jane's brother being rehomed now if he was that DA is not good. You can't simply send them to a home without other dogs as they still have to go into the public area. This is not an easy decision for anyone at the shelter, especially when they have been model citizens until they get put in to a situation that they react to, but with all the dogs seeking new homes, especially at this time of year, I don't think he will be rehomed, but I feel that this is a better decision now than after he is adopted and causes damage or injury or worse. So the local vets do assess them for temp and health and sometimes they show no sign at all during assessment or when in cages next to other dogs. Anyway, this is just my opinion that RSPCA gets bagged out as an organisation way too often but there are a lot of hard working staff and vols trying to do the right thing, outside of the pubic view. Hmmmm. what else.... everything is good down here, we have been working long hours (we usually fly from 2pm to 2am) but the scenery and lifestyle down here are great!!! If any of you want to see where I am living/working then check out the Australian Antarctic Division website (www.aad.gov.au) and click on the link to Casey Station. There are links to a web cam, "this week at Casey" etc. etc. In fact if you click on this week at Casey at the moment and scroll down to 15 December you can see a photo on the right of the group I flew down with and I am on the ver left on the photo at the Antarctic circle sign. Anyway, unfortunately there are no dogs down here anymore so it might not interest you!!!! Hope you all have a great Chrissie and New Year and I'll try to get on and check when I can although I won't have any web access at all from the 27th Dec to the 16th Jan as we are going to a remote camp for a few weeks with no shower and the toilet is a bucket!!! But we have plenty of food including chocolate!! Oh, and tlc, the out of date chocolate is just left over for survival training, but actully a lot of things are out of date by a bit (not 2002 like the stuff we had then!) because the station only get resupplied once a year and the ship just arrived yesterday to do that, so all fresh food is on its way!!!
