tlc
Info on Baiting around Warrnambool/Killarney & on and off leash areas. There is no baits anywhere between Warrnambool and Killarney at the moment, the program will start up in Sept and run all year round from then. Signs to be updated once the program starts, there is a sign near Levys beach and also the one at Gormans Lane. The baits will be laid from the Gormans lane beach right down to levys in the dunes also in private property along there as well. the baits are injected into blocks of fat which is then buried in the ground 15 cms. Parks Victoria is in charge of the coast line from the boat ramp at Killarney all the way back to Levys and from 200 meters the other side of the Killarney beach car park to Port Fairy and none of that section of beach is off leash at all under any circumstances. The stretch between the boat ramp and 200 meters the other side of the car park (which is called Killarney beach) is the Moyne Shires area and it is dogs prohibited between 9am and 6pm from the first of Dec to Easter Monday but the remaining part of the year dogs are allowed to be on the beach leash free!! I asked Ailsa about the DSE and she said basically they own the land but Parks Victoria and other governing bodys such as the MS and WCC manage and maintain the land. Ailsa said if anyone wants to contact her directly they can do so, (Pm me for her Number or call Parks Victoria) she will be happy to speak with anyone re: baiting etc.

tez
Hi all!!! Top day today weather-wise....Please please more of the same tomorrow! I'm also keen for a walk after training tomorrow. Just had the walk from hell with Jane today though! Such beautiful weather so Jane and I went off to lake Bullin Merri for a lovely off leash walk around the lake. I used the opportunity to do some whistle training with her and she was spot on....until we came across a injured/sick seagull who kept doing somersaults. And as luck would have it, it roly-polyed right under Janes nose! Well...6month old bird crazy pup with a real live bird popped right in front of her and her dog brain went into raptures. I'm going blue in the face blowing that bloodly whistle, throwing her bits of sausage and pleading with her to drop the poor little birdy which she did a few times but it kept roly-polying around. Jane must have thought all her wishes came true. Eventually the poor little thing rolled into the lake and swam away and we continued our walk. Bit tired by the time we got back to the car and then found...NO KEYS!!!! Yep....lost em on the walk.....so back tracked back and STILL NO KEYS! We had to walk 6 bloody kms home!!!!! Got a lift back to the car with the spare key and decided on one last look around and there they were sitting on a bare patch of ground with a few random seagull feathers....can't believe I didn't find them earlier. So very tired now!!

jerojath
Hi Tez, have you checked your PM's latley??JJ how was the show how did the Golden Girls go?? Dog show is tomorrow - Horsham/Wimmera. Just worked out it starts at 8:30am so we'll have to leave at 4:30am to be there in plenty of time. Wish us luck though - this is both Amy & Tarni's 'debut' so should be interesting. I have been told Belle's breeder (who bred Amy's Mum) is going to be there so we'll have some good competition for their first visit to the show ring! I don't expect too much from a puppy, but feel Amy could do very well even with a belly-full of arms & legs! Will update as we WIN throughout the day.... tez
Good luck tomorrow JJ...not that you'll need it as your dogs are fabulous. BTW if Tarni decides she dosent like the show ring, I'd be happy to help you out and will provide a nice loving home in downtown Camperdown for her! mawson
Hi guys... keeping fingers crossed for a nice day tomorrow! Tez, just in regards to your Jane and seagull incident I just wanna let you know that I am a wildlife carer for our area and would have been more than happy to help out with the seagull before and/or after Jane got to it!! Not blaming you or her at all for what happened, any dog let alone a young pup would have had a go or a play with a struggling bird, but I will give you my number tomorrow and if you or anyone else on here ever come across injured/sick wildlife in our region, please give me a bell and I will get onto it. Not very nice for wildlife to suffer out there unnecessarily, even if animals come into care and need to euthanised, better that than them suffering in the wild. Also, please remind me tomorrow to promote Delta again at dog school, the assessment day coming up in Geelong is the 12th September and if we can get enough people passing, they will try to get us a facility in Warrnambool rather than me having to go to Geelong! I'm sure if you cannot commit to regular visits to Geelong, you can tell them on the day and they will know that you are testing for the potential to have a facility in Warrnambool, that will give us more of a push... please guys think about doing it, it is a great cause and your dog doesn't have to be the best at obedience, just have a lovely nature and be calm and friendly. Cheers! Hope to see you all soon...
J...
Hi Mawson Long time no see! Hey can I get some more info on Delta? I would be interested in getting Darcy assessed, particularly if you manage to get something at Warrnambool. Will I see you at all at the November trial? I'm only doing the Saturday this year, but would love to catch up. :p
Guest Pandii
Hey, Jess, was just thinking about you yesterday, was up your way, Bet Darcy has grown. Tez, you post made me cry, could you not grab Jane and remove the seagull, and call a wildlife career, you may need to teach Jane "leave it" command, it can be taught from a very early age. JJ, how did things go yesterday, are you buggered, oh I dont need anything picked up from Melbourne thanks, spent the day up there yesterday. Thanks for the Delta information Maws. Tim & Tanya
hahaha Jane and the seagull... Puppies will be puppies won't they, everything that moves under their noses seems to be a play toy... Lucky it got away...
tez
In regards to 'The seagull'- I would have definately picked it up and taken it to a local wildlife carer had it not rolled into the lake and swam away...don't know what was wrong with the poor thing on land but once in the water it looked and acted like any other paddling seagull and made a swift departure from our part of the lake. I don't in anyway encourage my dog to attack anything and I am trying very hard to teach her the 'leave' command but she is only 6 months old and half lab. She is also very visually motivated and I think the temptation was just too too much. She didn't chase it down...poor bird literally rolled right under her nose. When she did pick it up, she didn't shake or maull it (thank God!) and she did release it twice before I could get between her and the bird so it had a chance to get to the water. Once in the water, Jane didn,t swim after it. Sure...it would have been better if she was 'perfect pup' with a 'perfect owner' and the whole situation could have been avoided but she and I are not perfect and we are both still learning about both training and about each-other. I do see that I have a way to go with training her and I also am continually learning what her triggers are so hopefully something like this can be avoided in the future! tlc
Tez, dont worry about the bird, Bloody seagulls are as tough as nails!! I think you are doing a wonderful job with Jane, she is a typical happy go lucky pup with lots of energy.Im sure if a bird landed under the nose of one of my lot they would have had a go too, it is nature dogs are prey animals and this sort of thing is just a natural insitinct. Mine do chase birds but they wouldnt have a hope in heck of catching one, they live in hope Im sure the majority of dog owners have had some kind of situation with thier dogs that they would have prefered not to happen. It happens to the best of us. Mine all know what Leave it means but sometimes they test the boundrys, like yesterday at the beach we came across a very dead smelly seal on the and all the leave it and whistle blowing in the world would not stop my usually best behaved boy in rolling in the dead animal, it was so discusting and stinky, sometimes they just cant help themselves no matter how much training they have had. I also still like my lot to have fun and be dogs, If mine we predominantly (sp) outside dogs he could have rolled inthe dead stuff all day but I had to put up with the smell so no thanks and today he found some fresh horse poo and rolled in that. ah the joys!!
