The fun days are normally council ran, and advertised on the radio and in the paper.

Maybe you need another breed for agility and obedience and keep bruno as a heater hog

Fromt he breed pages

"there are mastiffs today who compete in obedience trialing work, agility trialing, tracking trials and who work as therapy pets."

So once he has finished growing you could start him in agility, although he can start the basics now, like tunnels, and touch ect, tracking would be fun too

and it does say 80kilos is breed standard, is Bruno bigger than standard size ??

Just some ideas for you to do if you are looking at activities

yeah Bruno has quite a large blood line, his mum was 90 his dad 130 and rest of his family in same range...

80kg is usually min weight for a male...

Mastiffs are as they appear, a giant heavy breed. They can range between 80kg to 130kg for a fully mature dog. And then 60kg to 100kg for a fully mature bitch.

New post not another Edit

If you train at one club can you compete in the trials at another club, do both clubs have trials, I am to lazy to phone anyone,

Does Brieley have agility training, or just some equipment to play on.

Do they do jumps.

Thanks

The trials have nothing to do with the actual club, anyone can compete if you have a dog that trials, it is just that harris street have the facilitys so they have the trials there.

Briely dont have agility training, we often have fun days with some agility equipment that we use and incorperate training into the fun day.

We dont do any jumps and dont encourage dogs on our fun days to do the agility jumps if they are under 12 months old, we let the jumps down low so the dogs can still get a fel for the jump even though it is closer to the ground.

We have tracking days and there is levels and standards that the dogs can achieve, Cooper has a "track one" pass in tracking and it is a lot of fun although there is a lot of standing around on the day as it is a one dog activity and if there is a lot of dogs it takes some time.

Brierly is hoping to do some fund raising for the club and get some new equipment, and fly ball is one of the things we really want to trial but the equipment is expensive and there is so much stuff we need. I dont think there is fly ball anywhere else in town as WTD dont have a course they used to I think a long time ago as they have the ball box but not sure if they have thought about doing it again something to do with it conflicting with agility???? Not saure of the full story!!

There is a dog Swim Gym at Hawkesdale (Patricias place) veterinarian guidance is advisable before using the facitlity and not sure how much she charges but maybe we should organise a get together and all let the dogs have a swim in the pool. We used the indoor pool at kepala and my lot werent all that keen o it you have to train them to get out at a certain part which takes a bit of doing. Cooper knows Pats pool well when it was in the early stages and full of manky water it looked like ti had a solid top and he decided to run across it well he didnt get very far. Thank goodness I was close by because he couldnt get out and his initial reaction was panic which made him nearly sink!!!

Anyway has anyone ever heard of the Warrnambool And District Kennel And Obedience Dog Club Inc?? Laura asked me about it as she was going to give them some flyers about SEDA but I hadnt heard of them at all?? The web site says they have a dog show coming up in 2010. have a look here,

http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/Clubs.asp?ClubID=557

Tanya are you interested in getting Bruno assessed to be a therapy dog? Not sure if you seen earlier posts by Shannon about Delta, Mawson is a delta dog and I had an appointment to get my girls assessed but I had to cancel as I got Bronson and couldnt get to the appointment at the time so had to miss out but do intend sometime in the future to get the girls assesed especailly if there is enough interest in the town and Delta get a local facility signed up, at the moment Shannon has to go to Geelong for visits and to me I just dont think I could find the time to do Geelong it is just a little bit far away as much as I think it is a great program!! Tully and Lacy have both been on lots of visits to Lyndoch they absolutley love it!!

It would be good if we had a lot more doggie stuff to do here but sadly I just dont think there is enough interest, not everybody are crazy dog people like us  I am so going to push for flyball at brierly casue Tully is such a ball nut I think she would love it. Mine are all so different, Cooper great at tracking and not bad at obedience, Lacy is a wizz at obedience, Tully is just ball crazy and not sure what Brons special talent is yet?? He will probly always be good at being a cheeky bossy pup!

Hopefully this works...

 Tanya, Cookie is a looker, he does look at lot like Bruno, is he a slightly darker color? Have you thought about showing Bruno, I have never noticed if he is desexed? I dont even know if you can show a desexed dog? maybe they have thier own section. I haven't a clue about showing dogs!! That pic of Cookie if he is only 9 months old there, he is a good size but at what age are they fully grown?? Will Bruno get any bigger or just fill out more? I cant get over his nature it is just awesome, I have always been a bit ont he scardey side of bigger dogs but around Bruno he has a real calming effect and makes you feel safe!! Can I asked what made you choose the breed? Did you have other breeds in mind before you choose Bruno?

What bloodlines does Bruno share with Cookie to make them cousins

is Bruno a

BullMastiff

english Masitff or old english mastiff

Neo

Pyrenean

Tibetan

TLC, the dog club you mentioned is Harris street,m the dogs show is on each year, actually I think there are two, check with JJ. It is only for purebreed dogs on main register, as Bruno is desexed, he may enter shows that have a desexed class, but I am pretty sure warrnambool does not.

Bloody slow internet... Anyways... Sorry about the novel but TLC you asked so I answered...

Yeah Cookie is slightly darker then Bruno, we were going to show Bruno but just don't have the time really, and yes he is desexed there are shows that you can show desexed dogs at. Fully grown is usually 1.5yrs - 2yrs. Bruno will pretty much stay the height he is, just needs to level out, mastiffs are alot heigher in the back and eventually even out. Bruno will just need to fill out now, he has a lot of extra skin that he needs to grow into, his skull also will become alot larger.

Well when we were first looking at getting a dog, we wanted a large breed. Then I saw the ad on TV (the one with the dog and its arm out the window, looked like it was chewing gum) and knew that was the breed, also becasue we wanted a dog that would also guard the house. We spoke to lots of breeders and eventually found one in Melb (well sire anyway), it took us about 2yrs before the pups were born as they weren't looking at breeding when we first met, but we love their temperament of these dogs so much we were willing to wait. Also went to alot of Mastiff only shows and met different other breeders and dogs also.

Yeah larger breeds can be scary, but because Mastiffs are companion dogs they seem to have really good temperaments and try to be everyone's friend (that's after you are introduced to them). So don't try and jump my fence because you would probably get eaten...

 I can imagine he would be very protective of home and family, not always a bad thing. I wouldnt like for anyone to jump my fence either My 3 little fluffs would probly bark or lick them to death but Cooper would be very protective and bail them up I would imagine!!

All very interesting how people aquire the dogs they have, I loved to read mikes story on his website about his love of Vizslas from an early age, his bond with his dogs really shows in how he is with them!! You obviously done your homework before you got the big fella and all the waiting paid off he is great!!

My guys let anyone in our backm yard, not even a woof, one day a lady and gentleman enetered our gates ( wrong house) by mistake, the dogs didnt even wake up until I went out the back to see what the people wanted

When we were in our old house, we came home to find Dante Ty and Ishka, happily playing with a group of council surveyers

The breed standard for the mastiff says 80 kilos, I hope they are not trying ot breed them big, like some did to the rottweiler, imagine the extra stress on jionts that are just not meant to have it and the extra health problems
