wolfgirl
For those you are starting to train a walkydog attachment is a good device to get them use to running along by the bike, it gives you full control and teaches the dog it has to stay in place. Once you feel confident you can then progress to the lead. When we go riding I use the walkydog attachments, one dog on each side and run them both together as we have alot of loose dogs in our area and it makes it safer for us than if one of my dogs were to lunge at something. If I am only running one dog normally I just use the lead but most times I run them both together. Of course you can't use the attachments when running the ET but it is a good way of exercise and building up as well and both mine know the difference between when we use the attachment and the leads Oh and I just wanted to add I got Shimmer cuddles at Ballarat

Gayle.
I need one of those too! Benson and I put some km's under our belt today. I had the day off work so took him for his very first run around the neighborhood footpaths and bike tracks. We usually ride around the local school oval a few times then home which is just around the corner. But I figured we'd done enough of that so we ventured further and he was absolutely fantastic. Stayed right with me, didn't pull, and the only minor problem was when he stopped suddenly a few times to lift his leg. We did about 6 kms, he barely even raised a sweat. We rode home up a slight hill into the wind and I definitely did raise a sweat!

Rebanne
I have hit a hurdle Me, not Fern. I've hurt my shoulder at work, suspected torn tendons, wouldn't really know until I see the physio this coming Friday and find out the results of the ultra sound. Luckily it is my right shoulder but I am struggling with it re biking Fern. I'm going to do what I can until I see the physio and then I'll ask her if bike riding is okay ( won't mention the dog attached ). If she says no I'll be out. It's work cover and I can't afford to stuff that up.
Gayle.
That's bad luck, Rebanne! At least a greyhound is unlikely to pull....she'd be fairly gentle on the lead, wouldn't she? I grew up with racing greyhounds and don't ever remember them pulling, I used to walk 2 or 3 of them at a time when I was a teenager. We did about 14 kms today. Around the Moe Botanical Gardens....around and around and around, until we finally found the entrance to the rail tril, then partway along the very lovely rail trail, which we'll be doing again. it's 8.5 kms long so if we go to the end and back, we'll be getting pretty close to the length of an ET. We took both the dogs, they are both exhausted right now and don't expect there'll be too much action from them for the rest of the day!
