Sankari Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 I have a 3yr Golden Retriever with severe sensitive stomach which I am wanting to switch to a food that is for dogs like her. She gets the runs with anything that is given to her. So what brands for people with dogs with severe sensitive stomachs do you use? Charlotte has had IAMS, EP, Vivace and Bonnie all of which caused the runs. She was going ok with Raw diet for a while but then started to have the runs which ended up happening every day after anything raw or bones. Unless i give her boiled chicken pieces and rice she is having severe runs. She is healthy, energetic and all preventions are up to date. Ever since i have had Charlotte (August 2007) she has had severe sensitive stomachs. EP her runs were quite as bad but still not as great as i would have liked. Any suggestions please. Staffyluv Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 Go back to your raw diet and don't give lamb or pork bones at all. If giving beef bones, make sure they are not marrow bones. But mainly use chicken frames/necks/wings for chewing... Sensitive dogs seem to do best with the least amount of grains and preservatives. I am an advocate of hills because it did help my lad when he needed it but we have worked out his diet without it now and he only has human grade foods. Hills does have a lot of grains... I would also go to the chemist & buy some flora max or similiar to help re align the good bacteria to her gut. You can buy a dog form but not always the easiest. I have dog who will get the runs if if i feed certain foods.he thrives on the pro plan.mutton 3 times a week,chicken necks & bits of other stuff.To much & he will get the runs. Hills has way to much grains & one of the specialty varieties has an ingredient known to be a cancer cause plus most dogs hate it & wont eat it. Ons Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 (edited) My 3 year old golden retriever has now decided that she has a very sensitive stomach, I used to just have to be a bit careful about what I fed her now I have to be very strict. Just wish she wouldn't help the cats raid the pantry and finish of their Fancy Feast biscuits Anyway at the moment she is fine on Advance biscuits, and home made stew - mince meat, rice/pasta, frozen mixed vegetables, water cooked in the slow cooker. That's all I'm feeding her and so far so good although she is going for some tests at the vets on Wednesday. Yes - he produces the product called "Vets All Natural" which I have myself had excellent results with for my previous girl who was also sensitive. But I have found he really knows his stuff when it comes to the canine digestive system. I also found that he won't 'push' his product if he doesn't believe it is the right thing for your dog. He's in Castlemain and although that was at least a 2.5 hour drive from where I am (back then we didn't have the freeway access that we now have, so I expect even a shorter drive time-wise) and when I took my girl to him way back then I felt it was well worth the effort. This, after dotting around other Vets a bit more local than he and not getting anywhere fast - whereas his advice to me was spot on. HERE's a link to some background info on his experience. I haven't got his clinic's phone number at my finger tips, but if you google Vets All Natural I'm pretty sure you'll be able to contact him via their number, if you want to. I appreciate the suggestion though. I've met him and find him a very knowledgeable Vet and very helpful. I went to a seminar out at KCC park a few yrs back and was very impressed with the information i gained from the seminar. I bought Charlotte a 2.7kg bag of Eukanuba Sensitive Stomach today. I had a very large discussion with the staff at Mega Pet and the guy helping me was telling me of his dog who has the same problem with food. I was tossing up between Advance and Eukanuba.
