gareth
As long as your pup is eating the wings without choking I wouldn't be worried. We got Lizzy (Pug) at 9 weeks old she was eating wings and necks from the day we got her. I would imagine a 10 kw old beagle should be able to eat wings without any problems at all. My Rottie pups have been eating chicken wings since they were 7 weeks old a long with necks and frames. By 8 weeks they were giving lamb necks a good go. As the pups get older they get better and quicker at eating bones and are better able to digest them. JMO - but each to their own. ;) Do you think it is Ok that the pup is pooping 2cm pieces of bone? Andisa
I have seen this too, but as the dog eats more of them they are better able to digest them. You can give them a digestive powder from the vets to help with digestion if worried about it.
badboyz
I'm with gareth. I start mine on chopped chicken necks (chopping them in half/thirds will slow them down), then progress to whole necks. I do not usually give wings until they are more like 4mths old. eta. pikespooches
I have lost puppies from eating chicken wings particularly the wing tips from the bones not being chewed and they then have perforated teh bowel also teh chicken mince from Lennards as there is a lot of bone. I would leave them until 16 weeks and stick to necks until then as they seem to cope with them better. Nothing nastier than a puppy with a perforated bowel die in pain. luvsdogs
My son's dog Sooty, now 8 y/o, used to swallow chicken necks whole. She would yelp in pain. I then chopped them up but that didn't work either. So I gave her a single lamb rib & she swallowed that whole. OMG I wondered whatever happened to them as they didn't come out the other end. As she got older she started chewing them up. Tilba my 1 y/o border collie has had raw chicken wings since I brought her home at 11 w/o without any problems. She would take quite a while to eat them with her tiny baby teeth. Are the bone pieces well in line with the poo? No bits sticking out? If that's the case it should be ok. What's to stop it turning and perforating the bowel? Please do not feed Bobby wings for a few more weeks. he is obviously not able to digest them yet, and no digestive powder will make a difference. Why risk it? Edited January 28, 2009 by gareth
