BBB
Hi I'm sure the above has been discussed before but is Purina Bonne Adult Complete, a good biscuit just to feed without meat and vegies added? Look forward to hearing. Thanks in advance. Carol
WreckitWhippet
It used to be good stuff, the dogs did well on it and always looked a million dollars, it went to the crapper a few years ago now and it's now rubbish. WreckitWhippet
further to my comments, I noticed the first change in about 1999/2000. I can't quite remember but I was concerned enough to contact the then rep and the company themselves at the time. and then again a few years ago. persephone
It really went downhill once P*rina bought the company. The decline began when kangaroo harvesting numbers dropped alarmingly- meaning they had to substitute. It used to be fantastic- full of good roo meat
Janba
I think Purina changed the recipe when they took it over. It used to be a very good lower priced food now is too expensive for what it is.
Sheridan
Miss Minnie used to be on it and did very well. She turned up her nose at Orijen (a wise decision on her part in retrospect). I ran out and just fed her on the Eagle Pack holistic anchovy and she likes that, too, so now she's on that for brekkie and dinner.
GotAnyBlacker
oh, I feed that to Teddy and Daisy and Poppy gets the low fat one cause she's a piggy. What is a good food to feed instead of this? Why is it crap? Did they take out the meat and fill it with rubbish or something? If its crap I want to buy something else.
WreckitWhippet
I have no idea what they've done to it, but it now goes through the dogs, produces mountains of crap, they no longer have the muscle mass or the coat condition that they once had on it. If someone is getting good results from it, then of course keep on using it if it's working for your dog
SoL
Sounds like exactly what happened to Supercrap er I mean Supercoat.
Guest Willow
Sounds like exactly what happened to Supercrap er I mean Supercoat. Which Supercoat? All of them, or just one particular type? I've been using the Special Care Sensetive and both my boys have done really well on it, but I wasn't keen on the Lite & Mature one. cm64
The recipe for Bonnie Complete was changed from roo meat to chicken & thats when it went downhill. Bonnie Working Dog is still made with roo meat & its the one to use. When Bonnie changed I phoned the company to complain & was told that it was changed because most Australians didn't like the idea of feeding 'Skippy' to their dogs & chicken was more acceptable !!!!! what they didn't say was that roo meat was becoming expensive & chicken bits were a lot cheaper = more profitable One of my 2 dogs developed a bad skin irritation with the new Complete which cleared up when I changed to Working Dog. I'm not recommending Bonnie Working Dog only pointing out that if you used Bonnie Complete then a replacement still with roo meat is Bonnie Working Dog. Not sure for how long this will be ! *Lolapalooza*
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Have alook at this web site, its independent reviews of dog food....basically most popular dog foods are shite! I feed Eagle Pack Holistic large and Giant puppy to my puppy and Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovie/fish to the bigs that is 4 star most others that I thought were decent are only are 1 star (out of possible 6 stars). Is quite an eye opener. Has been on another thread so you might have seen it before. Edited January 25, 2009 by *Lolapalooza*
BBB
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Hi Thanks for the website, as you said its rather interesting just goes to prove that we do have some poorly rated dog food over here in Oz. Eagle Pack seems to be the best rated, Ive made a phone call to a supplier and they have advised that the holistic varieties are $111.60 for between 13.6kg or 15kg. Does this seem to be a reasonable price? Cheers Carol
BBB
Can anyone recommend any suppliers for WA for Eagle Pack besides Better Pets and Gardens. Thanks Carol
Lindyx
I feed Bonnie working dog too, I dont know any different cause thats what my breeder feeds. I beleive she also changed to working dogs cause of the Roo. My dogs thrive on it and it suits my budget. I also feed raw and vegies aswell. whitka
I feed Bonnie Working to my boy and im so pleased with it Since being on this Toby has stopped sratching and his coat has improved. I've fed him Eagle Pack Hol and Artemis in the past but Bonnie Working dog has been the best for my boy so far and it's easy on the wallet. But I also feed mince and vegies to. Since I have 4 bigs and one 8 mth old puppy I feed lots of chicken necks and carcasses and veges so they get more raw and less dry so is better for them and less $$$ I guess. Both the dogs get around 125 g for breakfast and then Miss Minnie gets 250 g for dinner.
sandgrubber
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ I had a look at this site but can't find any description of how they do their ratings. I notice that their book offerings are oriented to one or another trendy diet, and that Orijen is getting six stars. Can you point me toward any indication that their recommendations are based on evidence, rather than someone's beliefs about what is a good diet? It may just be a way to get you to pay $8/kg for pet food when you could be paying half that much. Or . . . to be completely cynical . . . is there any evidence that the ratings are essentially bought? Ie, one or more companies may be supporting a site that rates them highly because it shares the same bias as the people who design their product and their marketing strategy.
