I'm havng trouble finding out what is available in the Perth area (especially NoR) in terms of activities such as flyball/tracking/lure coursing/freestyle/endurance/herding etc.

I have tried contcating the CAWA a few times, but they either don't respond to my emails, or they tell me to look at the website, but all I can find on there is agility or obedience, and I'm starting to get a bit frustrated!!!

Can anyone please point me in the right direction???

Here is the website for TrackWest

http://members.iinet.net.au/~mfmargot/tracking.html

I'd be interested to see from other people if Perth has clubs for the others as they don't appear to be as common as obedience and agility! I was also starting to wonder if there was a Retrieving club for WA as there is no website but thank goodness I found out about it in the Canine News

at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot  .......I can't seem to find anything called "Canine News" either in the form of a publication or on the internet......

ETA: do you mean "Dog News" which is advertised on the DOL homepage???

Hi Willow,

What about dog sled racing? It's great fun & exercise for the dogs & owners!

WASSA is a family friendly Sled Dog Racing Club based in Perth.

Sled dogs traditionally pull people and cargo on sleds for hundreds of miles over snow. Here in Australia we use bikes, scooters or 3 wheel rigs on dirt bush tracks, usually between 1-5km. Safety is our number one concern, for this reason we only run our dogs in the cooler months when it is below 15 degrees celcius.

The original sled dogs were Huskies, Malamutes & Samoyeds. Now, all sorts of breeds are used : in WA we have alaskan malamutes, border collies, boxers, bull terriers, german shepherds, german shorthaired pointers, golden retrievers, koolies, labradors, ridgebacks, siberian huskies, staffies and many crossbreeds. If your dog is over 15kg he can have a go.

Our club meets every weekend in the cooler months. We run races, camps, training days, quiz nights & other social events. We have friendly members of all ages & from all walks of life.

Our annual Demo Day is Being held on the South Perth Foreshore on April5th. It's a chance for people to come & see sled dog racing here in Western Australia & find out more about our sport & our club.

Beginner Days will be held on April 11th, 18th & 19th at Gnangarra. You can bring YOUR dogs along and have a go using our club equipment - try before you buy!

Our website is www.wassa.com.au, email [email protected] , phone 0418 961 964

We'd love to meet you,

Kerry, Bailey, Stig & Dave

:) hi bully express

Sledding sounds like fun. I can imagine Lulu doing it, but can't imagine Jonty (although he'd have the muscle).

I can't believe you have ridgies doing it!!!! The hardest thing Jonty does all day is pull himself up off the bed to move onto the couch and vice versa

Is their a level of obedience for this sort of thing???? I might go have a look on Sunday

I'd like to do tracking with Lulu too, she has a good nose and loves sniffing things
