GoldD
Yep, I know, stupid question to ask now my backyard is covered We have just spread soft play mulch over the back yard which from all I can google is made from forestry pine chips. It is used for children playgrounds and has to meet Australian Standards. Of course the little 12wo golden retriever thinks this is the best food ever which of course I am stopping. I have googled everything and it looks to be safe (?) poisons wise. Can anyone tell me otherwise? All is fine and dandy when I am there to reprimand him but there's 6 cubic metres for him to munch through whilst I am at work!! ;)
dogbesotted
who was the supplier of the mulch? maybe phone them to find out. H
Loraine
Assuming that as it is used around kidlets there will be no poison, but I would be concerned at wood chips tearing the innards of the dog, as they do not breakdown in the tummy. Anna H
Soft Play Mulch as far as I am aware is just pure pine mulch processed to a size suitable to use as cushioning for kids play areas. It would have to be non-toxic if approved for playground use in childrens areas. You would be best to ring the mulch supplier and ask what is in the mulch. It's all guesswork for us as we don't really know what is in it.
GoldD
Called the suppliers today and pure pine, nothing added so all is good there. Not as much munching today so hopefully as it becomes "old news" there will be no more nibbling..... Loraine - the chips are tiny and not as big as some of the sticks and twigs he has been devouring and in some cases throwing back up. Doing our best to stop his munching of both but unfortunately pups are pups and chewing is something I cant control 24/7. Dies my 16mo golden has a penchant for hard plastic and the odd pieces of jewlery, his stomach and intestine will be a student vets treasure chest when he is donated to science at the end of his lifetime. I don't even want to know what is in there. Funnily he never ate sticks and is not interested in the mulch, give him an ice cream container any time!! Thanks everyone, he is at the vet for shots tomorrow, I'll bring it up with him too.
