Getting Used To Being Outside

There are plenty of people who keep their dogs outside (even here on DOL :)) not 24/7 which the OP never said the pup would be. Very bad form to make the OP feel like he is a bad dog owner for asking I reckon.

Who did that? :) Can you quote that bit please, cos I must have missed it.

Do you seriously not read the first half page of replies and feel like the OP was getting a grilling? Perhaps I am too sensitive but if it was me I would wonder why I bothered posting! I am not having a go, but often inexperienced new dog owners do not get their questions answered, and no questions is a stupid one, but because they do not intend treating their dogs like we do or have a different opinion than we might hold they get made to feel like they are in some way inferior. Please don't tell me you haven't seen this on other threads?

No, I can't see any grilling, just legitimate questions from people who are concerned re a baby puppy being left outside alone :)

I am not sure how to quote so will just cut and paste ...

Should have thought about that before you bought a Pitbull.

Otherwise why get a dog if you dont like the smell etc etc??

You have a restricted breed, and, while keen, sound as if you don't have much idea of what is involved in keeping a pup/dog of this breed.

So your parents were reluctant to even let you get a dog in the first place? Doesn't sound like the ideal living situation for a puppy or dog.

Now I am well aware that many of these posters are well loved, long time DOL posters and far be it for me to suggest they don't have the pup's well being at heart, I am sure they do but the tone I read (and as I say maybe I am a little sensitive) is just a tad on the side of "you don't know what your doing". I respect much of what these posters write on DOL and have taken many of their suggestions and put them into practice - thanks Perspehone & Clyde :)

Maybe the OP doesn't know what he is doing but at least he bothered to ask.

The OP mentioned a granny flat, how about the OP moving into there and then he/she can have the pup inside when he/she is home? Still the problem of containing the pup during the day - perhaps a solid secure fence could be put around the granny flat making this the pup's home?

Those comments are mainly in relation the breed chosen and the obvious lack of preparation, not the fact that the dog will be living outside. The OP NEEDS to know the potential issues related to owning a restricted breed.

Shame the OP did not ask these questions before purchasing the pup.

I agree with you on that one gareth  , I just think you catch more flies with honey and now he is asking if we don't turn him away and he gets some quality information then maybe the pup will get the life it deserves.

Unfortunately very few people seem to put in the time or effort to find out about their chosen breed before actually bringing the puppy home! DOL can be a great place to learn and receive many opinions, often quite differing opinions, it is then up to the individual to decide what they are going to use and what they won't.
