bozthepup
Hi everyone I am wondering whether it's okay to feed my 11wk old lab chicken wings (as part of his balanced diet of course). And if so, how many would be a 'meal' (he is fed three quarters of a cup of food 3x per day currently)
Garden Girl
Yes it is - as to how much - it depends on his weight - you'll need to calculate it in relation to how much other food he gets - but roughly 5% raw per day for puppies....tons of posts to search on with more info on that. Clyde
Just make sure the bones are always supervised I'm guessing he could go three or four for a meal if fed three times a day?

I agree. Just to clarify for people who don't know much about raw: the amount of raw food given (in weight) would be 5% of body weight of your puppy (daily). dogon
Hi bozthepup. My pup has weaned himself off his 3rd meal (lunch) and I've been giving him a chicken neck to replace it. Not only are they cheap ($1.99 a kilo) but he loves them I don't know about chicken wings but the necks are very safe and even though I hovered a lot at first now I just leave him to chow down. Try chicken necks first if you're a bit worried about the sharpness of the wing bones.
Garden Girl
Yes - definately supervise - personally I favour wings over necks - my boy always ate them in one go and choked a bit - he at least gives the wings a couple of chomps before he swallows them. BTW - gorgeous puppy. Edited January 12, 2009 by Garden Girl
Cockerlover
When giving necks, it is advisable to cut them up ,as whole ones are not digested propally, by pups or dogs, just gulped in one go
megan_
Necks can be dangerous (just the right width for chocking...) especially for a food-driven breed like a lab. I feed chicken wings. Be aware that they are quite fatty though, so I actually cut off a lot of the skin. I also join it (it break it up at the joints) and I don't feed the little bone that sticks out (too much fat). bozthepup
Thanks everyone. When Boz was 8 weeks he gulped down a whole chicken neck which absolutely freaked me, even though I was watching him. I have banned them for the moment so wings it is. Thanks for tips about fat etc.
