julesluvscavs
In the past some photographers I know on Flickr have made fun of me when i mentioned about that I was thinking about 'watermarking' our images, but now that they have had stuff stolen/taken/used as well , they are starting to take it seriously and are watermarking their work now !! ... BlenheimBoy
- following on from my previous comment - Here's a link to the Virgin Mobile advert I referred to: http://flickr.com/photos/sesh00/515961023/ The photograph was uploaded to Flickr with a CC (Creative Commons) licence. (which makes it fair game, but V still should have had a model release) Link to SMH story It really is just a 'snap-shot' type of photo, which highlights the fact that a photo need not be of outstanding quality or content for it to be ripped off. iltby
Have signed the petition and left a rather outraged comment. It really disgusts me that people think it's their right to claim others' art as their own. I don't know how you could feel good about receiving praise for artwork that you didn't create. Really sorry you've fallen victim to art theft, Vickie, Jules and Michael. I don't imagine any of my images have been stolen but you never know. tlc
its interesting htat this thread should pop up now as I have just this morning had an email from a friend telling me to be careful about putting my better images on facebook as once you do this they can use the image for whatever they like, you have no rights, it is still your image but by putting it on facebook they can take them and use them however they see fit, I had no idea this could happen, talk about stupid. What Im owndering is I always export pics from picassa back to my pictures which in turn reduces the size making them easier to upload to photobucket face book etc, so if anyone took one of my images wouldnt it be too small to do anything with?? Also if I put a watermark ( i think thats what its called) can it just be removed once someone takes the picture??
julesluvscavs
Hi Iltby... yes unfortuntely it happens, and it's amazing how many times you can find stolen photos in people's blogs too tlc... reducing size of an uploaded photo is a good idea because it will lose it's quality to be able to be used for anything too good.. However they can still be used for site icon images or wherever a smaller image is needed.. To some people who steal small images, it still has the potential to rake them in some good money !Grrrr My Joey in the Canola is now on many sites without my permission, and is alsp now some person's website's icon ! Grrrr ( that I've had no luck taking action again yet), and they only needed it to be an avatar size.. I am just starting to get into watermarks, most people hate them but oh well.... obviously the more difficult you make the watermark the more work photo thieves have cut out for them to PS them out ... and the more complicated you make them, they of course get harder to view ... Others on here who do Photography professionally might know more about it than me Edited January 20, 2009 by JulesLuvsCavs
julesluvscavs
The people I am very wary of on Flickr also are the ones that fav an image of mine, have a faceless icon, have no photos you can view on theirs and no profile info.. !!! I have emailed these people, but rarely will they ever get back to me.. then I usually block them to stop them favouring more of my images. Usually with these people if you click on their favs they have been collecting, they usually have similar looking images ! Grrr ! Some might be legit, but most of them aren't ! You don't have to right click on a photo to steal it, you can do screen captures too by the way.. Edited January 20, 2009 by JulesLuvsCavs
julesluvscavs
This is a water mark I am 'trialing' atm.... it's not a pretty one, and it does get slightly in the way of the image, but i would think it would make it a bit difficult to PS out.. (you can set it at different opacity levels ) For some reason even my not so good dogs photos get taken the most Edited January 20, 2009 by JulesLuvsCavs
julesluvscavs
Joey and Renae even made it onto some weird religion sect's group site !!!! and because it's one of them licking their birthday cake (the dogs), the people on that site have said horrible things about me ( the owner) taking a pic of my dogs with a birthday cake and allowing them to eat it . Grrrrr Edited January 20, 2009 by JulesLuvsCavs

luvsdogs
I'm new to all of this. I've only put 4 pics on flickr & made them not to be seen by the public. I was only experimenting. Can they still get to see these pics?
Ripley
Not if you make them private. Someone emailed me yesterday wanting to use a photo for something, some awareness campaign or something. Haven't responded yet, I will google what they want it for first.
