Looks like the pups really enjoy it. The vet I go to do pre-schools too and they have given us some brochures. Maybe I should consider it too...

I'd highly recommend it. A good puppy pre-school will help with socialising your puppy with other pups and people and give you lots of helpful training tips. If you can, go on to do more training right through to about 12 months old. Even Toy breed dogs need to learn manners and respect and both you and your pup should enjoy meeting other dog owners and their pets.

'puggle' (had not heard of that breed before)

It's a made up name for a cross breed, Pug X Jack Russel.

Actually as I discovered, the puggle is a pug x beagle. Adorable.

Yes you're right. I can't keep up with all the silly made up names. In my line of work I have heard some doozys!

Gretel: I think a baby echidna is called a "puddle"......Such a cute title! I wonder who thought to call them that originally? And why?

vMJv: Having raised Papillon puppies for many years....I thoroughly recommend crate-training. I start my pups at 6weeks with their crates. By the time they go to their new homes, at 10 + weeks....they love their crates, their own safe warm secure place. You won't regret it!! It makes car-travel, visiting friends, going away with dog, toilet-training, meal-times, sleep-times, everything....much easier and safer!!!

Lots of people mistake Papillons for long-haired chihuahuas, initially, but the differences are obvious if you know the breeds.

My smallest Papillons are still usually twice the size of the usual chihuahua and I would be very disappointed (to say the least) if they only had the hair-length and coat texture of a long-haired chi, not to mention EARS, etc. etc...LOL But they probably have way, way back ancestors in-common.

Good luck with your new baby. I hope you have many, many years of love and fun ahead for the 3 of you.

Stewie is a little cutie! Hopefully now after a few days in with some of the great you've been given you are all beginning to settle into a routine that works for you as well as Stewie. I've posted a couple of times on other threads, but there are 2 books which can be downloaded for free (in Jan 09) which cover nearly all of the things pre or new puppy parents should know about and helpful guidance on all the basic issues of socialisation, with dogs and people, house training etc.

They are written by an excellent canine behavourist, Dr Ian Dunbar who only uses positive training methods so you can rely on books will do no harm to you pup, only lots of good!

Pugs are fine as they are but should never be crossed with anything. The result more often than not is absolutely dreadful. I saw a pug X JRT yesterday and nearly ran away screaming. Bloody ugly.

Most pups are cute when they're little regardless of their breed.
