ruthless
I bought meat and bones on Saturday morning and forgot to take it out of my car when I got home. It's been in there all weekend in the heat. Do you think it's ok to still give the dogs?

WreckitWhippet
I'm surprised you could even get in the car door to retrieve it and no
SammyZ
What about when a dog digs/leaves a bone in the backyard and eats it months later? Or is my dog just weird Wouldn't that be similar? I thought that is what dogs did....
ruthless
It only smells a bit. I thought dogs stomachs were resilient enough to handle it They eat shit for God's sake, what's a bit of slightly off meat!

MonElite
Most dogs burry the meaty bones and dig them out stinking and eat them without problems. Edited January 11, 2009 by MonElite

polomum
Friends freezer died one weekend with a freezer full of chicken necks n mince - they ended up getting in a bulldozer to dig a hole and buried the entire freezer with the meat..........lucky they're on 5 acres hey!!!!!!! Um I probably wouldn't give it to the dogs.......but in saying that my hubby fed similar tainted meat as you are talking about to our dogs while I was away and doggies all fine - no runny poos or anything .........they are grose creatures that bury their food and bones and then eat it weeks later (maggots and all) /eat cat and horse pooh......their intestines obviously cope with yucky stuff..........If you can freeze your meat and give a small amount with fresh meat mixed together it may not be as bad........I wouldn't feed it to total indoor dogs though - think of the stinky gas that would drive you outside.......... We have a friend who is a vet and his wife gave green mince to their dogs and no problems either........we were at their home the next day and our vet friend just laughed and said 'most' dogs have a cast iron gut!!!!! poodlefan
It might be OK to feed it (but put a peg on your nose) but then again, it might not. Why take the risk?
ruthless
I didn't know if it was a risk, that's why I asked. Happy Birthday btw!
BrunoBella
I accidentally fed my dogs about 50 gms of chicken mince which was off (noticed later as I was packing it away...) Both dogs did tiny vomit the next morning but that's all. I think chicken would be the worst. I have fed other meats that were a bit suss with no problems. Melbomb
The only thing that would really worry me is you have no idea when the meat was cut up/taken off the animal (that sounds weird, i hope you know what i mean ) or how long it was in the window for. It might have first been put into the window on the day you purchased it but it also might have been in there days before you brought it. If it was frozen or was in a cooler bag and was left in the car i wouldn't have problem giving it to B.
ruthless
It was all frozen when I bought it. I'm going to throw it out just to be on the safe side. Bin day isn't till Friday though, so I'd better freeze it till then so I don't get maggots in the bin [again!]
Teebs
if it was frozen, and didnt smell funny, i would give it to my dogs.
Kelly_Louise
What about when a dog digs/leaves a bone in the backyard and eats it months later? Or is my dog just weird Wouldn't that be similar? I thought that is what dogs did.... Me too... when Sasha's bones resurface I usually have to take them away cause I can't stand the smell. But she will happily munch them - she won't touch them when they are fresh. Same with Chloe. She undug one the other day in the heat and left it in the sun, when I picked it up with a wretching stomach after work, it had maggots on the underside, but she still wanted it and gave me the sad eyes for taking it away. Goodness knows how much she had eaten before I got home. She scoffed rotten chicken one day at the park on our walk before I could get to her.... No big dramas, no rush to the vet required. I don't think I would feed her REALLY off meat, only at worst if it's slightly iffy/borderline. But she'd eat it regardless.
